Oh, what? So now I suppose you're just going to sit there and pout?

Wait a second, I'm dropping into this thread for the first time in 4 years, and this looked kind of cool before it exploded. Does the game occasionally do stuff now? Should I bother looking up my account?

It makes me wonder about the many niche F2P mobile and browser games out there. It isn't the same as Star Citizen, of course, but the fundamentals are similar. Get people addicted enough and push them into a mental space where they feel compelled to keep spending, either to gain/maintain social status or because of a perceived game advantage.

Or all the literal online casinos.

I’ve dabbled in online poker(no limit hold ‘me with a max $5 buy in) and somewhat ironically my gaming instincts have prevented me from losing much. I’ve got 20 years of experience saying that when the number hits $0 the game ends, so as soon as I end up on bad streak I just quit. I’ve still got $50 on Ignition.

Why? You can get a 6TB platter drive for cheaaaap these days. Know how much a 6TB nvme drive costs?

It makes sense to have one of each, the platter for long term storage.

This was my thought. Two 1TB NVMe drives in the desktop and two 6TB WD Reds in Raid 1 in a server with a 1 GB LAN connection.

I think I get what they're saying, though. I've bounced off of Subnautica 4 times now, all within the first hour of gameplay. I know there is a ton more to it, but gathering those first scraps has made me lose interest.

The worst community is Elder Scrolls Modding. Just go visit the Awful/Awesome mods thread in Games and see for yourself. Or look up Arthmoor and what a dipshit he is.
Or hell, I'd say Bethesda modding in general because there's that dude who made a mod for Fallout 4 and included a secret button that made Brotherhood of Steel blimps roll out swastika flags and giving them nazi uniforms. I give him props that at least he built it as a physical button in the game world.

I modded Skyrim VR as a project during lockdown last year and came to despise Arthmor. I still pop in to the Skyrim VR subreddit and point people towards a copy of UESP that he obsesses over.

Depends on what they did. I watched the 400i commercial the other day, and the production quality is still good. I could see putting that on a sizzle real.

Isn’t RTT how they did all those Breen videos all over the city, or Barney on the security cam? That was pretty neat in 2006

I used to say that you effectively lose nothing by just starting in the basic starter ships. But that's not even true. You GAIN a lot by not buying ships as a backer. If you buy the ships you like, then you just ... have them. You've skipped the quest to work your way up to the ship you want. And there's so precious little to do to begin with that you're stripping out the majority of the things to do with your time in the PU.

You're basically paying the game company hundreds of dollars to ... remove anything to do or quest for.

Did you guys actually progress to new ships? Is it possible to attain one of the higher tier ships into the $500 level?

Was the actual content like fighting enemy ships any fun when it worked?

In a 2-hour play session, how many game-killing bugs did you typically hit?

I've played a lot of Elite: Dangerous and bought a nice VKB Gunfighter / Desk Mount / Virpil Mongoose CM3 Throttle to kill time during the pandemic, since going out was off the table.

Say one thing for Star Citizens, they have legitimately done a lot for configuring high-end flight sim gear. I used a lot of their guides when building a Joystick Gremlin based system to get around some of Elite's archaic DX input issues.

edit: from just after I moved in to a new apartment last year. It's too bad Elite Odyssey killed my interest in the game.

A VKB and Virgil combo are about as close as you can get.

I’m not joking when I say that the deep pockets of Citizens has been great for the joystick market in general. My new setup feels like a massive upgrade coming from a Thrustmaster Warthog.

Oblivion was the release that broke me out of the same pattern. I spent years up to the release dreaming about how great it was going to be. Imagine Morrowind, but more, bigger, with real live AI!

I still liked oblivion well enough, but I’ve never been hyped for a game like that again.

Of course Crobbler still managed to get my $65 just after the kickstarter. Maybe we never learn

I forgot to mention how absolutely insane it was to open that letter with a "quote" from Marcus Aurelius. Pretty pretentious for a crappy videogame.

First it's not even quoted correctly, and secondly Marcus Aurelius never wrote that and it is one of the most frequently misattributed quotes.
It is in fact "what we do in life echoes in eternity" and it's a line that was written for the Gladiator movie.

So many places say it's a quote from 'Meditations' and yet not a single source points to the actual quote. It's also completely at odds with stoicism and would make no sense for Aurelius to write that, particularly in Meditations.

IIRC Aurelius didn’t even say that in the movie. It was Crow’s character Maximus.
