My father-in-law called my wife last night, frantic. From the way he was talking and because it was so late, we assumed something really bad must have happened. What was so serious that we needed a call that late?

"They're putting a Bluetooth chip in people, it sticks to your bones and then you have the mark of the beast. I don't want either of you travelling, that's how they get you. There was a truck in Ohio that crashed and all the chips came out, that's how I know about it."

Western PA here.

Kennywood Park just announced they're opening in mid-July. 50% capacity, temperature screening, 6 foot spacing for lines, disinfecting the rides between each trip, and you must wear a mask.

I sure as hell won't be going, but it seems like they at least put the bare minimum amount of effort into this. So, of course, every single comment on facebook is some variant of "WHY DO YOU HATE FREEDOM?" or "I WON'T WEAR A MASK THIS IS AMERICA!"

One woman was concerned she'd "drown" if it rained and her mask got wet.

VVV - my father in law also wanted to do a "family get-together" this past weekend. My wife and I were going to go when we thought it was 8 people in total hanging around outside.

It turned into "Okay so 50 members of my church are going to be there, and we'll be inside my 3 room house. Oh and my church believes the virus doesn't exist so nobody will wear a mask and will, in fact, get visibly angry at you for wearing a mask."

We told him no, he got pissed, but I'm not going to risk anything like that. It really sucks that saying "I don't want to potentially infect you and everyone you come in contact with" is now a statement akin to "hey im gonna do gay space communism now" with conservative members of the family, but here we are.

My in-laws said they were "done with masks" this past weekend, since they're tired of having to remember to wear them.

Accordingly, my wife and I will not be seeing them any time soon. Tough conversation but this poo poo is far from over, it's insanely irritating for people to say they're tired of wearing masks when my wife and I wear them all day at work and have no problems wearing them anywhere we might encounter other people.

But it's apparently soooo hard to wear a mask for a few hours a week to get groceries or whatever.

The biggest headache in my life right now is the disconnect between my wife's family and reality.

My parents are both staying home outside of groceries and grabbing takeout. We saw them last week for the first time in a long time, and my Dad told me he had to live through this (he has COPD) so we could go to the movies together again.

My wife's parents are divorced, and her mom is "over the mask" in her words. We visited them a while back and she said we were being "crazy" because we refused to hang out inside or to go to church with them. Her dad is completely loving bonkers and thinks this is all a political hoax, despite his new wife being a nurse. His wife also thinks it's a hoax despite the fact that she's treated people with covid-19 AND she has loving lupus.

I do not know how the gently caress we're supposed to deal with this insanity for the foreseeable future. We do a Halloween party every year and have already told people it's probably not happening unless it's all virtual, possibly we'll try and do *something* outside. But nobody is coming into our house, especially not people who think the virus is a hoax.

I'm sure a lot of people are dealing with much worse, but it is loving exhausting to have to explain why we wear a mask, why we carry hand sanitizer, why we aren't "going on vacation", why we can't just hang out all day long, why we don't want to see her aunt and uncle that just drove up from Florida, and why we don't want to hug people and shake hands. I knew they were pretty hard Republicans, but holy loving poo poo I'm trying to be a good son-in-law here and they just make it impossible.

Strange to see how people have become blasé about it so quickly, like the early success is going to sabotage everything now.

This was Pennsylvania about 3 weeks ago. We completely hosed up opening. Bars were all packed without anyone wearing a mask or even standing a few feet apart. Bar owners just bitched "Well, what were we supposed to do?" like there wasn't a basic blueprint they could follow for this.

Cases skyrocketed in a few counties because of this, forcing bars and indoor dining to close again (thank God).

We just sort of quietly went about our business and left town earlier than usual, because things felt too off and uncertain and foreboding. And that, of course, was when we didn't even know how bad it actually was, and how bad it would get. Literally can't imagine hitting up a place like Disney World right now.

My wife and I and another couple did an Escape Room in mid-March. They sanitized the hell out of the place (one puzzle used a rubber ball and you could still squeeze sanitizer out of it) and we still felt weird about going. That was our last big outing, I think PA's lockdown started 2 weeks later. We would normally get dinner or something after that, but we were all like "Eh, let's go home." Of course, we have some basic empathy towards other human beings and realized that we could easily be getting others sick by our presence.

I feel bad going to the freaking grocery store for that same reason. My wife and I would, god willing, probably survive corona. But if I gave it to some old person, or somebody with cancer or something? Holy poo poo, how the hell could I live with myself?

How much of that wall actually got built?

I am asked so much about Wall, about the Wall. But this wall... it was built to a degree like nobody thought possible, more wall and it's even taller in some places than I thought... and I.... I mean, I designed it.

You know, these architects, they come up. And these are guys, the industry calls 'em wall guys, they know walls that well. Ceilings, too, I guess but they... they trained on the walls. Building 'em. And the wall guys show me the drawings, give me the blue prints. And the very first time, you know, I said "This looks good, but what if we did this."

And these eggheads, okay, they're looking at the paper and at me and then they go "Wow, we never thought of this." And now the wall? I made it a little taller, okay, a little bit... it's a little bit tougher to climb. And you know, the guys wanna throw the drug bags, but it's too tall for that, now. So I saved a LOTTA lives.

But the wall itself it's... I never said... I NEVER SAID only physical, or building. Okay? OKAY? I said it was a series of walls, and the real wall? The true wall, which... I built that. Okay? I designed it with these HUGE HANDS but the real wall is inside of us, and I... I did that.
