I'm a goony goon but mine generally sits around the upper 60s or low 70s and if I don't drink for a month if drops to the upper 50s. If I'm also working out regularly it drops to the mid 50s. So that doesn't seem to far off.

Given what's going on with high BP being a risk factor I probably should not drink this month because my BP is high and that'll lower it. Plus generally just not depressing my immune system.

There is no 20% hospitalization rate or the disease most likely would have self-limited.

The numbers in the US when I ran them last night were only 2% severe/critical (hospitalized) and 2% die. I have no idea where you would get a 20% hospitalization rate.

And that doesn't account for the likely numerous asymptomatic or so-mild-as-to-never-report cases. Or false negatives.

The "oh poo poo we're hosed" stuff is from when hospitals are over-run and is the entire reason to try and slow it down so that there is time to manufacture sufficient PPE and ventilators which is also why our response to this at a federal level is so terrible because we aren't utilizing this time before the peak to be churning that poo poo out.

This is certainly a stupid way to estimate, but with the US population at 327 million vs 60 million for Italy (5.45x multiplier), and Italy having about 12000 deaths right now...if we assume Italy is now at peak death rate, that would be equivalent to the US having ~70K deaths at peak death rate, which seems too low. Also Italy's lockdown is FAR more effective than the US.

When you reach the peak you still have to go down the other side.

Slow down, but only because 90% of the service industry is already laid off. The next round will be factories that produce things that aren't being purchased right now, is my guess. A bunch of them are currently on furloughs but it isn't like the situation is gonna be drastically improved in a few weeks when the furloughs are up. You didn't get it in 2018. It's definitely more widespread than we know but given how quickly it explodes and people start dieing once it hits an area there's no way it's been floating around for any appreciably longer amount of time than the last couple of months.

One of the biggest failures of government in all this has been a lack of committing to buying a poo poo load of supplies such that companies can know if they retool or invest in equipment they'll have market for it.
