I just came back after playing at release, and am remembering how much I Iove the chill exploring and puzzle gameplay while really not liking the typical gacha game grind stuff.
I pulled Itto and love both his playstyle and personality. So far at level 30-40 he's perfectly viable with no constellation unlocks, but almost everything I'm reading says you need to heavily invest in him like running 3 geo characters and unlocking all his constellation stuff.
Is that just for endgame -which I'll probably never see- or also to be able to clear basic story stuff?
Because just running around exploring he works fine with a rainbow team. Hell, I use Qiqi as my healer and apparently she's the worst now.

The bigger issue seems like I might have to mothball him as enemies climb in level since I haven't unlocked his region yet so don't have a way to ascend him. So he's capped at 40 for the rest of the Earth Dragon region.

The only Itto Tip I can give you really is, once you do get to Inazuma, there's a cave underneath the settlement in the lower half of the eastern island continent (go to the lowest of the 3 TP points there, jump off the cliff to your north, and turn around and go in) with 6 of the beetles his ascensions need. You can and will find more out in the world, but this is the best place to spend 30 seconds going to every 3 days in order to have enough without going insane combing the full zone tree by tree.

So since I'm on the cusp of getting to 32 will I still have access to all of these stories as long as I get there before the event ends? Or are they actually 24 hours only? The in game notice made it seem like the former, but how much these games operate on FOMO I can see the latter.

Isn't Thoma's main use (the still incredibly niche) shielder for a 3 geo team that also brings pyro damage just to apply to wood shields?
Like that's how I've viewed him, but then again I don't have Zhongli who would make that even more worthless than just a fire dps doing the same thing.
I kinda feel like 5 characters per team might make those mediocre characters with a minor niche more useful since with 4 slots I always have a more important person to bring. Of course if we had 5 you'd probably still be more likely to bring someone stronger.

As someone who played barely through Monstad at launch and then came back recently I'd like to see them do something about the way characters require mats from their specific area which is locked behind story progression.
It sucks when the game says "congrats on getting that fun character you just got from the banner! Oh too bad they're stuck capped at level 20 until you've advanced the story 20 more hours!"
But I also know any catchup mechanic or say ability to trade earlier zones farmables for later ones basically just guarantees more established players will instantly max new stuff when it drops.

Chasm is locked behind story too. I thought I recalled bits of Liyue were locked by adventuring level like the Monstad "you're not a high enough level, Piamon automatically makes you turn around" but yeah Liyue was largely there at launch and I even had 2 or 3 of the characters from there when I stopped. It's Inazuma that's fully off limits until you advance through 2 big story chunks, and I assume the next area will function the same way -but it shouldn't.

I could also be 100% wrong about the red borders the game kicks you out of not actually shifting with level and it's strictly as they've added content.

Yeah I agree that the whole flipping of reward tiers was kinda refreshing. Usually the "so you came and checked it out" is garbage and the ridiculous stuff is where a game tucks the premium currency rewards. I wouldn't bother even looking since I'm still world tier 3 if it took max difficulty clears to get anything good.

I can certainly see that with how many times I pulled Thoma between this banner and last. I stopped pulling when I finally got Itto last time, and ran out of free crystals around 60 or 70 pulls without a 5 star this banner. I might be able to get another free 10 pull before the banner swap, or I might just wait and hope my pity pull is good next time, since I've already got like a c3 sucrose.

Remember this is a casual phone game that happened to get popular enough to also have a pc and console port. There are limitations to 'bleeding edge content' just in the controls. Hell, I tried even running one of the easy resin bosses on my phone and had trouble just because of how much jankier it was vs a controller.

I don't think low difficulty is a bug so much as a feature. I at least view this on par with warframe, in that it's something I pop into as a quick brain off and relax game vs something that I try hard in, and I imagine there's a sizable player count that views it the same way.

Bit of a faff killing stuff without the "plunges equal instadeath" buff, though. Oddly enough in a game designed around using a 4-person party, there are precious few characters that'll quickly murder a hilchurl-shaped HP sack.

Each time I've done it there's been 1 dude who plunge attacks to get all his coins in the final descent while everyone else is still trying to get their stack.
Edit: Oh, I just noticed there's a score bonus for finishing first... that's pretty dumb and counters the co-op goal of letting everyone get their points.

Yeah, this is how I feel too. Same with the really substantial rewards feeling easy to get. The easiest way to burn me out on a game is trying to create a treadmill of "you need to sink 2-3 hours in every day or you won't finish the content in our arbitrary window!"

Does China or the EU have very specific and newer version of anti-gambling laws that would make this an issue? I don't see changing what's available or drop rates as a false advertising thing, any more than a casino moving a slot machine from the dollar a play to penny slot section.
Or did they specifically advertise some of the limited banner units as "This unit will only be available from this banner and will never appear in the game any other way"? I could see that getting them in trouble.
Really it's more likely they don't wanna upset the applecart or reduce FOMO spending if whales think they can reliably wait a year and get things cheaper.

Yeah I'm not rolling for him either, I don't like bow characters and already have 3 of them I should be putting resources into leveling for various reasons and I need the geo archon more for my geo team. I'll use Dendro traveler if I need it. Hell, at this rate I'm not even gonna be done unlocking the content I need for Inuzama characters for a few patches, so I'm not concerned about the new zone yet.

I still feel Thoma isn't complete trash in my Itto 3 geo team, but I don't have Zhongli and my only other pyro character is Amber. I'm also trying to rationalize my lovely luck in getting him to c4 with wishes.
Though I'm also just about stuff like world level 4 or 5 open world stuff, not end game. Hopefully before I'd even try to get Thoma to 60 I'd have a replacement.
For my geo team I'm running Itto, Garou c2, Geo Traveler, Thoma c4
Itto and Garou are the only ones I'm married to in that line up, I could also swap the traveler for a Ninguang c2.
My healers/sheild options to go in his slot are Qiqi, Barbara, and Shinobu or I guess Noelle.
I'm not a fan of Barbara, and haven't used Shinobu yet. I'm still very limited in my Inazuma mats due to story gating, but got Itto to rank 4, so his engine has started going.
I could also I guess just skip healing and eat a lot of food or keep Itto with the heal on kill sword since it has DEF as a stat.

The event challenges tied to each island and the boat time attacks give decent rewards too.

So what actual stats should I be trying to put on Gorou if he's just in Itto's pocket? EM and ER? None of his talents mention scaling off any of his stats. Or does he not scale and I pretty much don't need anything but some hp and def buffs to avoid him getting smacked in the split seconds he's on the field casting is buff?

Yeah that's what it looked like. The only scaling I saw was def increasing his talent damage, but I don't really care about the damage he does, just the buff strength. I was just curious if there was a hidden mechanic I didn't catch.

I already have Sucrose and a ton of her constellations, so yeah if I built a taser squad, would probably use her over him at c0. A shame, other than my Itto team I keep getting a bunch of the same pieces or alternates instead of actual new gimmicks or a complete team.

It worked but there's one bridge I remember having to waste a ton of time on because the official solution seemed to be off, like the spot where the actual view was flush wasn't the solution, and you had to just play with the 'almost got it' lense flair flashes instead of looking at the actual image and how it lined up.
Luckily the later parts of that puzzle realm are much better 'position this so it looks like it's connects behind something in the foreground'

The biggest problem Inazuma has for a player coming in outside of its release cycle is how much of the islands are gated behind story content and not in a clear way. It made sense when characters were added with the different islands, but it sucks now to get cool toys you can't play past level 20 for dozens of hours, and I was halfway through Liayan when I came back during the Itto banner.

If I'd just started and gotten my Inazuma characters, so only had them and the freebies I probably wpuls have quit.
Storywise my biggest complaints about Inazuma so far are the way the traveler goes from just a blank canvas helper to reluctant and almost immediately back to helping everyone feels kinda jarring. Especially since in context you go from "Sure Beido I'll beat up strangers for your amusement just to ride on your boat"
to "sucks to be you, yeah you did just help me, but your broken country aint my problem, " in the span of one boat ride.
Also because the story isn't drawn out over a year, it feels weird that I stumbled from being selfish to Ayaka's only friend in like an hour.

At the very least in a menu like team deployment. I get why they don't want to let 1 character basically trigger any elemental proc by themselves, but it's frustrating to have to run back and swap at shrines. Especially since the game doesn't guarantee you a character of each element, so you can wind up needing anemo or geo traveler for puzzles, but want another one for your combat party.

Wait. No pity on the standard? I thought the pity counter applied to everything but the weapons banner. So there's no point juggling standard pools to also beef up my pity pull or for that matter avoiding the standard if I'm on a streak of no 5 stars to avoid resetting it with a roll on the bad pool?
