My brothers Swiss wife refuses to use a microwave and won't have tea with microwaved water. Whenever they visit my mom has to bring out a kettle for them to use on the stove top. She was happy when they visited me and found I have an electric kettle. I suppose it doesn't work as quickly as in Europe, but it gets water boiling fast enough & was free

I didnt put any thought towards kettles until my college boarding house had one and it was real convenient when you need warm water and other people are using the other appliances. I got a free one at work and kept it. My free one automatically shuts off when it gets hot enough, making it as safe as a microwave
