James Oppenheim posted:

As we come marching, marching, in the beauty of the day,
A million darkened kitchens, a thousand mill-lofts gray
Are touched with all the radiance that a sudden sun discloses,
For the people hear us singing, "Bread and Porridge, Bread and Porridge."

As we come marching, marching, we battle, too, for men—
For they are women's children and we mother them again.
Our days shall not be sweated from birth until life closes—
Hearts starve as well as bodies: Give us Bread, but give us Porridge.

As we come marching, marching, unnumbered women dead
Go crying through our singing their ancient song of Bread;
Small art and love and beauty their trudging spirits knew—
Yes, it is Bread we fight for—but we fight for Porridge, too.

As we come marching, marching, we bring the Greater Days—
The rising of the women means the rising of the race.
No more the drudge and idler—ten that toil where one reposes—
But a sharing of life's glories: Bread and Porridge, Bread and Porridge.

You know when a MFer starts bolding parts of his statement he's going through a normal one

You know, the dude does seem to be anti-Italic. All that bolding for emphasis, and not one little CTRL-I? Bold typefaces are blunt, conspicuous, the equivalent of making a point by shouting it at the top of your lungs. Italics, on the other hand, are the intellectual's intensifiers. Subtle, easily overlooked by those who just want to skim rather than read deeply, more akin to a rye grin and a wink to an enlightened audience than a raised voice. Anyone can use bolding to make their statement seem dramatic, but it takes a truly great poster to pull off italics.

For a long time, Robert Southey was unsure how to monetize Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Ultimately, he decided to give two thirds of the story away for free and only charge for the remainder. One third of the story was low art, and nobody wanted to pay for it. Another third of the story was high art, and thus (again) nobody wanted to pay for it. The other third? The other third was just right.
