They brought it up themselves in one of their episodes, but it's often true that you could already read all about whatever it is they are talking about on Jon Schwartz's tiny revolution blog in the year 2006.

I'm not really watching any kind of streaming stuff, but is there a fundamental difference between a dude doing soy face while saying gamer words for money as opposed to doing the same except while running an anime and doing a fake voice? It all seems equally weird to me.

i think whats plausible is sorta like what you see in Blindsight, by Peter Watts, which is very good. what i describe isnt exactly the book but its sort of how i got here

basically your constantly expanding interstellar shell of a species is going to be at a fixed tech level more or less, because theres very little conflict on the periphery. you just keep expanding outwards in your colony-ships-that-can-make-colony-ships-that-can-make-colony-ships eating the world. close to where you started youd expect more conflict and tech development but its distribution is limited by c. so all your descendants that are at the leading edge of your empire are the least technologically advanced, and you can never really help them out.

so if they come into contact with another race thats also a constantly expanding shell of a species, you imagine basically eternal war across millions of star systems

so dont let that happen send out autonomous probes that are way faster and without having to deal with life support or your frail bodies and glass every planet that looks like it has meat growing on it. if your merciful you could just kettle them instead but the merciful will be replaced by the paranoid. killing billions of sentient beings is a much better bet than allowing a multi-system war to break out, and theyre not your kin anyway

also god forbid they end up being more clever than you and find a way to break the speed limit then youre really screwed

basically, our first contact with an alien intelligence will be an asteroid the size of manhattan traveling at 0.1c clipping through the earth

Lmao, that's not at all what's happening in Blindsight though?

The one thing I disagree with here is that the Democrats would do better with any other nominee. Despite low approval, I'm pretty sure Biden would still do better than any other possible Democratic nominee.

The main reason for this is that, more than approval, I think the biggest factor is "how much the politician is hated by 'independents' and Republicans" (since partisan Democrats are voting for him regardless and - just like their Republican counterparts - are mostly motivated by antipathy towards the other party). And Biden simply isn't someone who inspires much hate - he mostly just inspires ambivalence. It's why they have to focus so much on Hunter. But if you got someone like Kamala or something, it'd be very easy to spin up the right-wing rage machine against her (for a variety of reasons).

edit: I think Democrats are likely to win the presidential election simply because either 1. (if Trump runs) Trump inspires more hate in Democrats than Biden inspires in Republicans, or 2. (if Trump doesn't run) the Republicans have literally no one else who is remotely popular.

Yeah, who do the dems have to run instead? They tried out a few of their clones in the primary and they never got anywhere. Nostalgia for the Obama era is still all that they have, so doing Weekend at Bernie's with Biden for another four years is probably their best bet. And the Democratic Party has a lot of institutional knowledge about dealing with dementia patients.
