They were friends prior to that but Smith was extremely pro business and FDR not at all. That was the big split between them.

You have to go for one of the high paying specialties to make the money that everyone things doctors make. I know it's hopeful, but Hillary's plans for helping people pay for college may help reduce health care costs indirectly by allowing more people to attend and maybe become GPs. Of course, this is just as likely as repealing Obamacare and expecting costs to drop. I hate that companies can't even fathom even the smallest hit to the bottom line, and that we should put profits above ethics. (disclaimer: I think Obamacare is a good start, but obviously more work needs to be done).

+1 for Hillary in Texas (Guadalupe County). This morning our polling place was very busy and for the first time in three elections, I saw more Hispanic and black people than white voters in the short time I was there. As I was leaving after using the voting machine, I couldn't help but leave grinning. A nice black lady was entering the building as I was walking out and she said in a low voice, "It feels good doesn't it?" and I exclaimed "Oh god it sure does" and we both started laughing and she commented that she couldn't help but see my huge smile and we both fist pumped the air and continued on our way. Today has been a very good day.
