Coming back to Berseria myself after a few months away, trying to remember game mechanics after a break is always the worst. I guess i was also playing on Intense because i am waaaaay underleveled, like 5-10 for the regular enemies and then the Code Red/Melchior are like 10-20 higher. Is that the game telling me to level up more or is that just Tales difficulty being Tales difficulty? Because i honestly can't remember if i would just lower the difficulty for the bosses or what because just fighting them seems to be a bit bad.

Going back through Berseria with double xp and keeping all the skill masteries and what not is a fun expierence.

I don't know if it's knowing how to actually play the game better than i did before or maybe the extra levels and skills making a difference but wow am i wrecking every enemies poo poo. I hope the next Tales game does something about Boss Mystic Arts, not that bosses shoulden't have super powerful attacks but from Xilla and onwards it just kinda feels like they can do them whenever and there isn't much you can do to stop it/reduce the damage so much.

Implying that he is happy he can now gently caress this woman to give birth to the daughter he just lost and start all over again

I mean okay, that's probably not why that happens but i remember just laughing my rear end off at the implications of it when i saw it in the moment

According to my brother that still plays Crestoria there has still not even been any changes to the optimization or to the parts of the gameplay that needed attention (one of the debuffs straight up didn't work at launch and still doesn't so i think it's your main bad guy character Viscious that is bad to use because of it?)

I would totally play this game if it were an actual full released game though. But i guess a gatcha is easier/cheaper to make than even something like the old escort series games used to be like.

Probably the former, but latter could be cool.

I know you've got 5 Lords to beat and not infinite time/money to develop the game but wow it seems like you just kinda wander into town and within 5 minutes work your way up to beating the local lord pretty fast! At least with the first guy there was a build up to it and the implication that Alphen spent his whole life being a slave before he randomly ran into the resistance one day.

Does Shionne get a Nurse equivalent because 2nd Lord was very tough and needed lots of group healing! Can you actually stop his Indignation casts or are you suppose to just take them?

Maybe when i'm level 30-ish or something instead of 20 I was thinking that the AI in this game is actually pretty smart at not being suicidal but i swear their quality has taken a nose dive ever since 4th member has joined.

Do the secret cutscene instadowns only work the first time you do them? Because while they are cool it's a bit wierd that the boss can just keep doing the thing that is meant to be stopped in the cool way by a character but that character just can't do it again as far as i can tell. The 3rd Lord is especially bad at this since i only ever managed to stop the charge once in the beginning and then never again despite doing the same timing every time.

Gumball Gumption posted:

The boss fights are not hard, they're just wildly different from most regular enemies. The regular enemies you can beat like it's a pure action game. The bosses still play like an RPG where you need to match gear, pick the right moves, use buffs and debuffs, and all that other rpg poo poo.

Which I guess is harder but it feels more like the normal enemies are too easy and the bosses wouldn't be so tough if the game asked you to practice all of its systems more

If that's the case, it's a shame that buffs and healing come out of the same resource pool that is incredibly expensive to refill(there is no need for CP restore gels to be 3k a pop other than to entice people to buy Gald through microtransations). I like the CP system as far as a replacement for TP and for the normal amounts of healing you would need to do in regular fights.But the fact that healing arts,buffs, AND environment interactions come out of the same resource pool is a bit strange to me.

Thinking about how people are having problems with the Lord boss fights, i wouldn't really say it's necessarily the amount of health they have that's the problem or the fact they have very distinct phases now. It's just that you can't go into every boss fight fully loaded up with healing gels of all kinds and life bottles maxed out and it really kinda shows how much you generally rely on those in Tales games.

Instead you gotta go in with maybe 4-6 healing gels and 1 or 2 Life Bottles at best and you just gotta deal with it. Hope you don't have to heal or res too much since you'll pretty quickly run through your CP if you don't micromanage your party enough to avoid damage that the AI will gladly throw themselves into.

I've noticed you don't really get to stagger the lords easily either so it's not really a case of them breaking out of your combo and then they kick your rear end, they will just kinda stand around for a bit doing nothing and THEN do an attack that will kick your rear end unless you dodge out of the way. Because they are still very capable of just launching into a combo that takes a character from full health to dead in a few seconds and there isn't anything you can do about it unless you can use a boost attack to make them stop.But if you can't make them stop and that character dies you only have 2 or 3 life bottles as opposed to the full 15 or maybe 10 you'd normally be carrying into a boss fight.

All of that said though, i do greatly appreciate that mystic artes are much more obvious and telegraphed now and you can even dodge them on occasion! I always hated that in other games the boss will just be attacking normally or doing a combo and then suddenly you've taken 3k damage to the whole party because they just decided it was time to use one now and poor baby Laphicet just happen to wander too close by while trying to cast a spell.

Air Thrust is a great general purpose spell and Shooting Star is the big spell I charge up for most of the time. Her normal attacks are awkward and not very useful and most of her air attacks I've unlocked are hard to hit with with the exception of Subzero Confinement and Celestial Hammer.

Combos are how you turn your buffs all-party and cast your big spells before you unlock them or don't have enough time for the full cast.
Your base spells can be combined with themselves for up to twice for different results and are quick to cast.

Thunder Blade-> Holy Lance->Divine Saber
Air Thrust->Cross Blade->Cyclone
Spread->Freeze Lancer->Tidal Wave

There are also some mixed spells I've found that you get by having 1 art stored and casting the other.
Cross Blade+Spread is Malstorm, and is accessible right from the start by storing 2 copies of Air Thrust then casting Spread.
Freeze Lancer+Holy Lance is Shooting Star and is accessible as soon as you get 1 of those 2 arts.

What is the maximum amount of spell storage you can do? I think the big thing with Rinwell is realizing you can stock more than 1 at a time since i don't think the tutorial mentions how many can be saved up at a time.

The general gameplay feel is probably the best it's ever been in Tales with this game but i have to admit i miss how snappy the party switching and easier access to mystic artes in Berseria was. Switching out party members and letting them heal up fighting game style while i did switch combos with 2 or 3 of the other characters instead ending a boss with everybody pitching in their Mystic Art is just peak Tales gameplay.

I"m joining the "wow, that was a rude side quest game!" club. If you're in the post second OP part of the game, as a rule of thumb stay away from any quests where the NPCs say a light came down on an area recently. Those all seem to the motherfucker quests that throw level 60+ enemies at you that you can't run away from regularly. But i want to make a special Shout out to Farewell,Mage because it's the enemy level choices are baffling i'll put my experience with it spoiler tags for those that don't to see.

I had already been that mountaintop area and figured it would open up way later and since way later has happend after Lord 5 i went there first in the huge amount of sidquests the game opens up at this point, about 85% of which you can actually do at level 37-40 which you are probably around at this point.

So you go up the mountain and you run into the level 39 Berzerker fast guys. Not a huge problem. But then if you move up the path there is an NPC getting attacked by birds which you are forced into a with that are LEVEL 66! and you can't run away from them! Thankfully though if you just keep hitting them with arts and your various character boost attacks you can hit them with break combos and kill them fast that way, hopefully you can kill them before they kill you because you can take 2 shots from them before you die, even as Kisara most of the time too. Why even have seperate enemy groups that are so far aparet in level like that? Makes no sense!

It's a bit of a shame because that tower has a pretty cool big dragon looking boss that does the spirit temple thing where you're running around the map in combat mode well before the thing even shows up while you just fight it's adds. I think the adds are suppose to be kind of a level/DPS check but the adds aren't really aggressive enough so the AI just kept using my life bottles and wasting my time while i coulden't run from this fight either
