Really hoping the PS3 edition has halfway decent online play, as much fun as I had with the 360 version the online world was pretty barren most of the time short of super lagged out intercontinental players. Only did manage to talk a few people into doing some sets online, but it was pretty much only the one time for either of them. All the other randoms either cleaned my clock or were too laggy to battle against.

Have to say, I found the netcode by far the best of any online fighter. Maybe there's more european players than I remembered, but I was having great games against US people and even fairly passable ones against Japan sometimes.

..christ why isn't this out now, I love me some VF. Someone stop me from trying to learn Akira though.

When you get a choice of which character to unlock from the start, pick Devil Jin, he's a total pain in the rear end to unlock for the mode otherwise, and by far the easiest character to destroy any of the bonus stages with.

Just watch any/all of Tekken crash, you should be able to find straight up youtube links or entire seasons through Zaibatsu. The variety of characters always suprises me, it's one hell of a balanced game*

There is literally no way Smash Bros Melee will be at Evo, donations or not.

Equipment requirements, but more importantly the odious fanbase and what happened last time they were allowed in.

What happened?

The Smash Community threw a massive hissy fit that Evo organisers didn't implement their utterly gigantic list of rules for 'balanced play', including banning all items and most of the stages.

There was something about thw winner being massively harassed by other 'Pro Smash' players and hassled into giving up his winnings as well, but thats hearsay AFAIK.

Basically, horrible community and the game is dull as ditchwater for non-smash players to watch as well.

Yeah I can't really comprehend people saying otherwise. Especially pre-patch, Skullgirls was dull as all get out and it still basically doesn't have a scene at all. Maybe Mike Z should fund raise to get his game patched on 360 instead of doing multiple fundraisers to get it at EVO?

Not saying that Skullgirls isnt pretty botring to watch, but Smash is visually dull as hell, with the benefit of being a decade old to boot. That, and as a casual observer, literally nothing in the game looks* interesting or skilled.

The Q4RAF is a truly amazing piece of kit; Natively works on PS3/360/PC out of the box, a nice weight & size, and a reasonable price. If I didn't already have a dual modded TE, I'd be using one, and plenty of people locally swear by them, they're really good. If you're going to sink money for a non-custom stick, you really could do a lot worse.

I like playing dress-up. What has more/better customization, Tekken Tag 2 or Virtua Fighter 5 FS? Are there any other options I'm not aware of (Besides Soul Calibur, I have that)?

I know you have to pay in VF5, but I got the game for free and would have to buy Tekken anyway, so it works out the same.

I have Tekken 6 but I never played it, so I took a glance at the options but it seems to be mostly different colored versions of 3-4 items per location. Apparently you can't even look in VF without buying the DLC.

I'm going to suck at the game regardless, so the actual play isn't really a concern.

S Tier: Soul Cal 4 (for reference)

A Tier: Tekken 6

B Tier: VF5:FS / SFxT

C Tier: TTT2

Dan Tier: Mortal Kombat

It's really not. Especially in a game where hit checking is such an important and fundamental concept, the delay based netcode is really frustrating if you play offline even a little.

Maybe I've been lucky getting matched up with people in the UK, but its felt pretty seamless in comparison to, say SF4. Never going to be identical to offline, admittedly.

It's not as good as the Madcatz sticks will be when Evo hits (probably $99 for the MLG and others), but you can get a Qanba Q4RAF for $140 bucks, which is compatible with 360, PS3 and PC. So it'd be cheaper/easier to have a dual modded stick than getting a TE with a Cerberus or PS360+. Plus they're supposedly pretty good sticks.

From what I understood, even though every character has a ton of special moves, you only need to know a handful! Something that hits hi/mid/low, something that homes, something that launches and bounces, and a few moves you can turn into a simple juggle. That's like, 10-12 moves, which is pretty much like learning what every normal and special move of a Street Fighter character is.

The problem is, you also need to know all of those (realistically closer to 15-20) for every character to play against them, and what sort of punishment you can or cant get if you block, if they can be stepped or ducked.

It doesn't help having more than a few moves that look a lot less or more safe than they are.

EDIT: On the plus side, most of the combos in Tekken are pretty easy/lenient compared to other games, and you'll only ever need to know a few per character.
