God, I just hope they don't make everyone a stereotype.

They could have it so the richest people have the best security, so you can either steal from hundreds of poor people easily, or go to the extra effort to steal from a rich person just to feel better about yourself.

I just about meet the minimum specification, but I'm going to get it on the PS4 once its price drops. I've been so used to running last-gen games at 1080p60 that I really don't want to get it on PC if it doesn't look or run as well as it does on the PS4.

E: VVV Yeah, but I'm worried I won't even reach that. I'm getting a PS4 at launch, so I don't want to also spend money upgrading my computer too.

They're not all available for games, though.

I think both consoles dedicate 2 to the OS, but that still means that games are running with 6 cores, and could utilise that many on the PC too. Probably not require 6, though.

This was one of the first truly next-gen games announced, and made a massive impact at E3 2011. However, launching almost two years later has removed a lot of the wind from its sails.

It's being released on the 360 and PS3, truly next gen

At least it's being developed as a next-gen game, with the PS3, 360, and Wii U getting a watered down version. Assassin's Creed IV is a nice looking game of the PS4, but it's definitely a last-gen game with the settings tweaked and in a higher resolution.

:siren:Apparently, the Sony Store has a release date of June 30th listed.:siren:

On the EU store, it used to be some date ridiculously far in the future, like 2100 or something. That's probably because they had the pre-order available before it was delayed, otherwise they wouldn't have offered it. If they changed that date then they're probably close to its actual release date.

E: It's still listed as Jan 1st 2099 on the EU webstore, so it might just be a quirk of the US PSN store. They don't even offer pre-loading there, for some reason.

With a few shader mods and a texture pack, GTA IV on PC looked absolutely stunning. I hope Watch Dogs will get the same kind of mod support down the line. It was a bit annoying with GTA IV, since the later updates removed a lot of the shaders to improve performance, so you need to downgrade from 1.0.7.0 to 1.0.4.0, which requires fiddling around with Steam, GFWL, and Rockstar Social Club.

This video doesn't even have any new textures, besides changing certain the police to the NYPD, and the addition of real cars like Aston Martins. It looks very similar to the target renders for Watch Dogs that were shown at the E3 presentations.

Wait, they're not patching that poo poo out of Grand Theft Auto IV and its trilogy? I literally just can't play those games I bought?

There's something I've used in modding GFWL games like GTA IV and Dark Souls called xliveless. It replaces the xlive.dll and lets you run the game in single player without GFWL getting in the way. If you liked the multiplayer in those games, then you're pretty much screwed.

Or the games industry will crash hard because of the unsustainable costs of creating photorealistic assets along with hugely elaborate and expensive physics engines to maintain the illusion of realism at all times.

In all seriousness, though, the sperging about graphics is really prominent right now especially just because we're transitioning to the next console generation, which is a long overdue transition to begin with. I'd say it's also Ubisoft's fault for making the original demo look better than the full game with all that vertical slice nonsense, but honestly, a lot of the spergs moaning about it should know better than to trust a big-name developer and publisher to show them honest gameplay footage. It's always, always going to be doctored in some way, it's a shame that that's the norm, but that's just how it is and how it's always been, even with the best and most honest of developers.

Honestly, though, when the game releases it will probably look pretty good and communicate its modern dystopian cyberpunk-y visual themes just fine and nobody will care that there's a few less props blowing around in the wind or w/e.

The only gameplay demonstrations I've seen that turned out to be remotely accurate were the 15-minute ones shown for MGS4 and Ground Zeroes.

Although after MGS2, I've always been expecting some kind of twist.

Anyway, even if Watch Dogs doesn't live up to the reveal trailer, I'm sure it will be possible later in the generation, going by how much open-world games improved during the last console cycle. Not having to target old systems as well would help.

I dunno, I was able to run crysis 3 nearly maxed out settings on my 770, but txaa absolutely killed performance, like downed my fps from 40ish down to 15-20. At least I think that was the AA option. It looked really nice though!

TXAA is amazing, there's a world of difference between the new inFamous and other PS4 games that use FXAA like Tomb Raider and MGSV: Ground Zeroes. At least, when you're playing it on a 1080p monitor.

There are some artefacts that can be seen in this gallery, like ghosting and sub-pixel lines being broken up, but for the most part it looks like a PC using a really high MSAA setting. I hope the performance hit isn't so bad that developers just use FXAA instead.

Because the last generation of consoles had only dual core, they never bothered developing games that exploited the rest of the cores you had if you bought multi-core processors for the last 10 years. Now with the new consoles, they are finally able to take advantage of all that hardware development that has happened since then.

And we'll probably be stuck with this for another 6 years, at least.

The 360 and Wii U have three dual-threaded cores, while the PS3 has one core with 8 SPUs, five of which are available to games. The new consoles both use a pair of quad-core Jaguar processors, with six available to games.

None of them are dual core. It's only been recently that PC games have been able to make quad-core processors, 64-bit support, and DirectX 10/11 the minimum requirements, because otherwise they'd be incompatible with older or weaker computers.

I can't imagine it working too well, at least for the whole 'stay hidden' part. I know when I play an open world game I drive like a maniac. Hand brake around corners, drive on the sidewalks, take every sick ramp, generally go at full speed. It'll be a little hard to keep up with someone without being conspicuous if they drive like that.

If they're driving, then you'd have to rely on the fact that they're probably not aware of what's happening behind them. You could also remotely activate bollards in front of them rather than having to ram their car off the road.
