i decided to splurge and get a new gtx 970 card, and it has a 6-pin and an 8-pin power connector on the card

my psu only has two 6-pin connectors (and not 6+2 connectors), however the card came with a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter, will that suffice? i'm worried it will be underpowered or cause other issues

the card itself has one 6 pin and one 8 pin, so i would only need to use the adapter for one of the 6 pins

it fired up just fine, i suppose if it has any problems it would show up under load, but i'm not going to be taxing it that heavily, only 2 displays at 1920x1200

i suppose i'll find out, hopefully i won't have to splash out for a new psu too

i'm in the market for a new router since my old one is b/g only with a 10/100 switch

what are some good models, and i'm told that custom firmware isn't as necessary as it used to be, is that true?

can you get the pro version of windows 10 if you have an unused windows 8 license key?

i'd rather not have to jump through the hoop of installing windows 8 pro and then upgrading to windows 10 pro

i'm having a strange issue with a sata hdd in a new system i just assembled

the drive isn't recognized in uefi when i start it up and i've tried swapping power and sata cables, sata ports and other drives are recognized when plugged in to the same sata ports with the same cables

the drive is recognized and works just fine when connected using an external usb 3 enclosure

i also checked to see if it was a gpt/mbr issue, but the drives that work are all mbr

i'm genuinely stumped and i'd like to keep on using the drive as transferring the data would be a real headache

has anybody encountered this and know what might be the cause?

a good adblocker and to stop using pornography

Stymie
Jan 9, 2001

by LITERALLY AN ADMIN
but seriously an adblocker helps filter out a lot of the "click here for FREE VIRUS SCAN" stuff that installs malware and a focused policy of not downloading/looking at porn on the computer eliminates virtually all malware vectors

there's no downside, both practically and morally
