UPS is the loving worst, I hate that Apple insists on using them. They didn't even attempt delivery today after driving around town all day with my iPhone 8 in the back. They refuse to let me pick it up at a UPS store or the depot until they fail a delivery attempt, which they always do because the drivers slap the door tag on and run away without making any attempt to buzz into the building. Next possible attempt will be Monday. But they drive around doing all the business deliveries first and don't even try to deliver residential packages unless there's extra time at the end of the day. So it might be till Tuesday or Wednesday till I get that magic failed attempt that lets me go pick it up.  I probably should have just drove 4+1/2 hours to the Apple Store in Vancouver and 4+1/2 hours home rather than take my chances with UPS.

Finally got my iPhone 8 in the mail and it's awesome. The Spigen hybrid case less so. Gone are the chrome looking buttons and quality feel, now it's just a cheap junky piece of plastic same as anyone else.

So I bought AirPods today, but they're sitting with the receipt while I hum and haw over whether to keep them or return them. 90% of what I listen to is podcasts so the sound quality is more than fine. I'm just stuck on the price, $246 CAD after tax. The alternative is getting my Beats Solo 2 wireless repaired at a cost of $188 CAD. Anyone want to rave about how much they love theirs a little to tip me over the edge on keeping them?

So a week into having AirPods I freaking love these things. Price still feels a bit high but whomever said they're the first Apple product in ages that has that "magic" was totally right. Thanks to everyone who gave me the push to keep them.

No idea if it's as bad for the phones but looking at Android tablets lately has been eye opening. 2/3rds of the Android tablets at BestBuy struggle to run even modest software from the Google Play store. Going down the line trying one device after the next getting choppy frame rates in a year old game with 16-bit style sprite graphics was hugely disappointing. I'm sure at the high end Android phones/tablets are fine but midrange is a minefield of devices that can't run stuff. Every Apple device in the store runs pretty much everything in the App Store fine.

Yeah I gasped out loud at work when I saw the $1319 CAD price on the X. $249 CAD for AppleCare+ plus taxes the cheapest iPhone X is $1756.16 CAD or $1409.83 USD. That's a lotta money for the second best iPhone of 2017.

Anyone else occasionally get text notification sounds that cut in and out? On my iPhone 8 a couple times a day I notice the notification sound crackles and sounds distorted. It's not all the time, maybe one in fifty or so.

Curious if such a thing exists, but has anyone found a credit card sized Qi wireless battery pack? I know there were a few corded ones roughly the size of a half dozen credit cards stacked, but I can't find any signs of a wireless one yet.

Instead of chasing tiny improvements in sound quality they made headphones you actually want to use.
