Kind of wonder where Savarin's going to go from here, assuming this isn't the last we see of him. Also looks like not-Jerid is going to lose yet another superior next episode.

Having a massive core pillar of Gjallarhorn be so nakedly comic book villain evil is less interesting than if the organization as a whole was still salvageable but was riddled with bad apples like Coral. quote:Then again I'm not entirely sure why Gjallarhorn is jackbooting economic protesters because I was under the impression that most economic interests like the Dort colonies would be under control of the power blocs and thus subject to the power bloc's brutal fascist police crackdowns. Now the question is whether they bother to retake the other colony cylinders by force or they just evacuate all the air and let everyone suffocate.

galagazombie posted:Kind of ruined the tension though when the next episode preview showed gjallahorn letting them pass through when the cliffhanger has them asking "How will we get through?" Yeah, because the show was totally going to have everyone die in episode 18. AradoBalanga posted:Clearly Kudelia is about to roll a 20 and a crit on her diplomacy check. Once her speech started broadcasting to the entirety of the Earth Sphere, Gjallarhorn lost its chance to simply disappear Kudelia or have her killed in the confusion of battle. Killing her now would just prove her right about whatever she says in her speech. It also doesn't help Gjallarhorn that McGillis can probably sabotage their normal information control attempts regarding her, or that Nobliss has decided that she's currently more useful alive than dead and is thus putting his figurative and literal weight behind keeping her that way. On a different subject, I wonder what's happening with the part of Tekkadan that was left on Mars? We haven't heard anything from or about them in a while. Maybe they're going to be the subject of a side-story manga or something?

On that note, I liked the little touches at the end of the episode (the offering left at her station, the student writing her name). Kudelia isn't the only one who misses her. I also liked Mika's initial reaction when Atra told him to comfort Kudelia. I think that's the first time we've heard uncertainty in his voice in the entire series.

Ein will only go crazy if they give him the Gundam Caim.

The worst part will be when someone has to tell Cookie and Cracker. Also, Mika's going to have to step up and start thinking for himself, because with Biscuit dead he's the only one in a position to play Kircheis to Orga's Reinhard.

BizarroAzrael posted:Is anyone else having a problem getting the new episode to play on Daisuke? It seems to just buffer forever. In my case, I tried watching on Hulu, only to find that the subs weren't there. With closed captions set to "on", mind you. Otherwise, I agree that they really needed a shot of Carta's subordinate dragging her suit away from a stunned Mika. Very much liked Kudelia's show of competence. Vaguely amused that "McGillis" is his first name. Definitely hoping this gets a second season. There's just no way I can think of a satisfying ending they can pull together in the next few episodes, especially when it feels more like Tekkadan finishing their mission will be the catalyst that kicks off the war that's been brewing since the first episode.

Gaj posted:The true barbarity of Mika is the trail of disabled vets he leaves in his path. Hes must be over burdening Gjallerhorn's VA. Now, Gjallarhorn's janitors, those guys are cursing his name every time they have to scrub out a cockpit before the techs can rebuild the mobile suit. Also, assuming we get a season two, here's a batshit insane idea I had while thinking about the whole "Biscuit and Fumitan died, so who's next from that frame in the end credits" thing: Kudelia will die, Atra will take up her role as leader of the revolution.

ImpAtom posted:You know, I do have to wonder. Because he was prioritizing getting Carta the gently caress out of there. It didn't help, but... As for why McGillis is probably setting Gaelio up to die rather than bringing him into the "fix Gjallarhorn" scheme, it's because he expects Gaelio to balk at the sort of dishonorable poo poo necessary to carry out any such scheme. Also, while I'm reticent to get too much into the whole "comparing to other Gundam shows" thing, I'm honestly at a loss for whether there's been an uglier death than Carta's. Manipulated into a hopeless fight, her last subordinates die horribly in front of her, she and her mobile suit are brutally beaten in a fight where she was dominated from start to finish, she's reduced to begging for help as she watches her enemy prepare to finish her off, and then she dies while the man who tried to save her tells her he's the man who (unbeknownst to both of them) sent her out to die.

As brutal as that episode was, I can't help but imagine Makanai just kind of sitting there strapped in upside-down in the car at the end, waiting for someone to remember that he's there.

Gaelio was sympathetic largely because of how the last few episodes dismantled him, culminating in McGillis explaining exactly how badly he'd been used right before killing him. He was utterly out of his depth by the end (much like Carta), and his final moments were him out-Garmaing Garma. It was a bit excessive when his main crime was never stepping outside his privileged background.

Just so it would cause uproar about Gallarhorn being willing to do that to it's soldiers. I didn't notice that much difference. Well, okay, he was actually able to win a fight. ...although he still failed to kill anyone, so I guess he stayed a fuckup right to the end after all.
