Wow so anet are basically going to just stroll in and casually fix all the problems with the expansion in the first week of it being out are they? Who do they think they are.

something that always makes me laugh is whenver I see a video up from anyone in death and taxes, specifically mike DNT, every video has a 40-50% dislike ratio. whats up with that? was there some juicy drama involving these dudes?

Not sure if this is the only thing, but I think they were involved in some internal raid testing while raids were still in development, then when the raids came out they completed them within the first hour then posted a bunch of spoilers, tweeting about how awesome they were for getting the "world's first". Anet posted revealing what they'd done and kicked them out of the internal testing, but a bunch of their members made lots of money selling the raid loot. Dunno if they've done other stuff but that certainly pissed off a load of players.

This patch is nuts, removing grind while increasing the rate of rare poo poo makes stuff so much easier. I really hope black diamond and linseed oil prices crash. I still need me some viper gear.

I made a great decision to come back to the game a few weeks before the patch. :toot:

Yeah, true. While this is step in the right direction, hell I'd call it a huge shift, this doesn't change the fact that HoT contained a non-satisfying amount of content. Consider both the large amount of work for this patch, and the fact that balancing all the gigantic changes will take up a decent portion of anet's time. It will probably be a while until we start seeing new content.

I for one am ok with this, considering just what the patch has brought. Looking at the immediate feedback, it appears anet has a very good reason to continue their development along this design path. Which is totally sweet.

I guess we'll start getting living story updates again soon so hopefully that'll bring some more content. It's really nice to see that Anet are recognising that they messed up with HoT and are trying to learn from the feedback and make it better. It's a very good sign.

Welp, anet just had to go and send out an email telling everyone about the new content. We were happily enjoying the patch until then.

Yeah, why do these exist? This update or another one better include another bloodstone dust eater or something.

The unstable salvage items are great and I hope they do lower the price of mats.

The nodes also drop an item that can be exchanged for stuff at vendors. I imagine the bloodstone dust is just flavour and the real point of the nodes is the other thing.

Yeah, that's probably what I was remembering. I know someone was complaining about losing a recipe on a character or something.

Maybe they mean it's nine months of man hours, rather than nine actual months? Of course, they could just be exiling a single dev to work on a single set of armor for nine months, which would explain why no one wants to do it. Seems particularly bizarre to claim that they're making 9 sets of armor though, when so many of them have, say, Asura's weird toes clipping through the boots—the toe clipping is even dumber because some sets just hide the foot mesh.

They do still have to make the armour sets though, it's not like they're just shoving a human armour piece onto an asura and that's why it's clipping.

9 months for 30 sets of armour is what, a week and a bit per suit? I'm no 3d artist but that seems within the realm of possibility - and I'd agree that they probably don't just give it all to one artist but you never know.

Yeah, but if it makes you feel any better the 100% exploration gift is one of the easiest parts of getting a legendary weapon! :suicide101:

So, any bets on when Anet will add more collection slots for all the new currency they're adding? It's a drag to play and then realize that I still can't deposit the lovely bloodstone shards

I hope so - at the very least I hope that the torches to unlock chests mechanic in the new map indicates that they've finally realised that map specific chest keys is terrible design, a revelation that hopefully extends to all the other currencies.

What decides which personal storyline you get, race or class? Are they unique all the way through like SWTOR or do they all eventually bleed into the same overarching plot with treedude vs dragons?

Race and some other minor character creation options decide your personal story and they all converge near the end of the vanilla game into dragon ankle punching regardless of your choices.

I personally don't mind it though.

I thought that 4+ month content droughts were inevitable with expansions. They must have been furiously working behind the scenes to have this expansion spaced out like a standard content update.

I think they've been a lot smarter about their resources this time.

If you look at HoT in terms of features, there were loads. Guild halls, raids, vertical maps, gliding, a new class, masteries and a new WvW map.

It looks like in the new expansion they have mounts as the only big new feature and all the rest of the effort has gone into content and into getting the expansion out quicker.

You can see that the specialisations are way more interesting and deep because they didn't have to spend time on a whole new class and it seems like it's the same story with these vast new maps. Even the new masteries seem much more focused and useful rather than the rather stretched set we got initially.

Seems like anet have looked at HoT and worked out what went well and what went poorly and really refined their approach for this.

So hyped. Holy poo poo.

It'd be kinda cool to see mounts in WvW but I guess that won't happen for the same reason as gliding

How in-depth has the information on the new specs been? Too early to tell their roles/playstyles/geartypes ?

Several of the new specs looks interesting though not really my type of playstyle. I have leveled all classes to 80 with elite specs and Condi Ranger with sb/axe-torch for soloing and druid for teamplay was my favorite, with auramancer in a good second place. E.g. lots of self sustain for solo play and supportive/healy type of builds for group.

I am also of the opinion that the elite specs added should be so good that everyone is going to be using them, they are the biggest selling point of the expansion so it would suck to play a class that gets a spec that is not good for the new content (e.g. spellbreaker being a pvp spec if that is true) so if the ranger spec doesn't make me stronger at soloing or supporting i am not sure i'll be getting the expansion.

WP did a quick demo of the new specs on the twitch stream and the vod is available here:
