The album title was the symbol that would later become his name (with segues by Kirstie Alley who was on a show called "Cheers"). It (the album title) was a combination of the "Male and female" symbols first shown in the cover art for his first double album, "1999" (It's cleverly hidden in the first "9" of "1999", the name of the album) plus he also had this symbol on his motorcycle in the movie "Purple Rain" that I watch every time I get the flu when there's a full moon) - until 2000 when he changed his name back to "Prince" after settling the legal battles he had with his long time record company, Warner Brothers (headquartered in Burbank, CA) . He used an online distribution method for his music for some time (no info on the OS or ISP - SORRY!) with mixed results.

Anyway, my cat is named Max and if I ever save enough money for a new doll or transition, I'm going to name her (and myself) "Maxine". The cat and 2 dolls agrees whoelheartedly with my decision but Tiffany (my first doll) still prefers "Jools", after founding member of Squeeze "Jools 'The Jewel' Holland" (look him up!). guess we'll see!

If anyone can find the SA Everest thread from that time there's tons of details from hikers and climbers goons about how horribly prepared she was.

One of her training methods involved jogging while wearing body armor and climbing a gym rock wall. She burned through 4x as much oxygen as she should've during the climb.

Sadly FYAD went crazy about the Everest death pool so the old Everest threads were gassed. There's one in Take a Hike but it's not nearly as fun. :smith:

nobody in that thread ever thought it was funny when the exploited sherpas died, and everyone generally had a lot of respect for actual mountaineers who had a clue about what they were doing, and was sad when those people died, for the most part

like if you think the darwin awards are ghoulish and terrible then sure, you're being consistent, but it was only ever really just a highly location-specific version of the darwin awards

This. Shriya Shah-Klorfine was hilarious. Reinhold Messner was a tragedy. Your other mountain deaths lie somewhere between those two poles.

Leperflesh posted:

There's some of that too, and that's likely what killed Shah-Klorfine: she gulped down way too much oxygen, and refused to turn back when her guides told her to repeatedly. A lot of the deaths up there come from oxygen deprivation removing people's ability to think clearly, combined with fixation on reaching the summit without regard to the fact that going back down is even more difficult than getting to the top.

also it's worth realizing that the standard tourist route to everest is basically a one-person wide stairway leading up the side. A lot of the time when poo poo goes bad in the death zone, one person dying and blocking the way gets everyone else completely hosed. A lot of contemporary Everest heroism stories (everything since In Thin Air) is a skilled mountaineer unfucking the route just to get a bunch of idiots down.

What a world we live in.

It’s unfortunately not quite that simple. The backer’s replacement went something like “that bitch if she’d had a sense of humour this would never have happened”, turning it into a personal dig at me. So the guy was obviously upset about changing it, he agreed to change it instead of getting a refund and having his name pulled entirely.

I’ve been through way worse. I don’t think it was right of Obsidian to let the backer use the replacement text as an attack on me, but the point was just to get the bigoted joke out of the game, and that got done at least.

@Coolness Averted: no, the guy really went off about how I was censoring him and that trans people were just being jerks with no sense of humor. It was definitely supposed to be a dig at me for calling him out. A+ tolerant undead joke though.

E: also this happened at the height of Gamergate. Totalbiscuit ended up baying for my blood and people were trying to break into my various social media accounts for months. Which, to bring it back to SA, is why I have a weird half-apologetic probation from VideoGames on my rapsheet for calling TB out and getting a bunch of reports.
