To be completely fair, the Navy still regards the Pueblo as an active ship (it sticks out along with the wooden Constitution in a ship listing), so it's not entirely like some abandoned milsurp that has 'sentimental' value. That said, yeah, really weird hill to die on there.

More or less. They love the ability to pass pet legislature and throw nonwhites in cages, but they're less thrilled about having to actually be accountable. Far easier to let things go to poo poo while sabotaging and jamming up the works as spoilers and obstructionists while loudly proclaiming your victimhood (under your white hood, natch) and pinning the blame on the people in charge.
