Yeah, I have a history of back problems going back to stress fractures from sports in my early teens. I started feeling a little discomfort in my back while doing deadlifts, so I switched to a trap bar and it's been smooth sailing since.

I tried straight-bar deadlifts yesterday to work on my form so I wouldn't look like such a pussy at the gym and it felt really good. Really felt it in my hammies and glutes. Got up today, lower back is sore. Back to the trap!

Try using a V handle and do ultra slow reps with a strong contraction at the bottom and a complete stretch at the top. My lats are fried after my sets of pull downs.

Those are my favorite. I do wide grip first because it's my weaker lift then I really load up on v handle. Get a good bicep burn, too.
