As much as Texas huffs its own "no beans in chili" yeehaw cowboy farts, the nationalism is more a positive one, and results in having considerable pride in a store that has better planning and resource management than many companies and now governments(U.S. included)

:lol: :texas::clint:

yeah, heb has been very well stocked. no toilet paper, sanitizer, or flour, but pretty much everything else is in stock, including fresh-made bread each day and stuff. texas is one of the states that is in a really good position for this sort of thing because so much of their supply chain is local - a lot of the meat is raised in-state and there's a pretty good selection of local crop foods too

they're still getting dunked on by the local korean and mexican grocery stores though

I'm assuming Yellowstone popping off would legitimately be the end of North America, right?

the majority of the us would be outside the radius of the lava and the bulk of the ash, but it would basically destroy all agriculture in the us, gently caress up water supplies, and knock out the power grid, and in worst-case scenarios it would make rainfall decline so sharply that most of the worlds rain forests would die, etc.

so eventually yeah, but it would probably take a while

Jazerus posted:

please explain how yellowstone destroys the midwest

i mean like yeah the fallout from it is going to reach the entire continent but imo i would be much more concerned about the great plains states!!

half of the midwest would be in the primary ash zone, i.e. getting up to 3 feet of toxic ash dumped on them, and most of the other half would be in the secondary zone. there's actually more overlap on midwest / great plains than i realized but yeah great plains would absolutely get demolished too

either way our agricultural production would be completely hosed

They almost certainly have much more than that in emergency funds (with the exception of the AirBnB dipshit types who took on massive debt under the assumption their properties would always be profitable). Just walking around with your friends in the woods was a thing, you'd find some old bottle on the ground and throw it at a tree until it broke or find and laugh at forest porn, etc.

I mean I don't want to get all :corsair: but between sprawl and the insipid paralytic lure of social media it kinda sucks if a lot of kids these days don't have a familiarity of being outside without close shelter (e.g. having to walk as far back out as you came in) because any legitimate mass movement is going to have unrest and stuff where you can't just gently caress off home and pick it up tomorrow lest the cops block you out overnight.
