three people on wifi trying to use the built in online feature to watch someone play a 1-player n64 game online are F*CKING fail and deserve to have all the sound replaced by chittering demon noises. its obviously not possible to reproduce sound over connections with latency without making a bunch of crazy a** stuttering noises and nintendo knows this. if you want to do some weird thing like watch your friend play a game online then get a f*cking elgato and set up obs and stream to twitch. dumb a**!!!!!!!

Snake Maze posted:

I just watched my sister play through this exact bit in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and it (along with the entire game up to that point) was perfectly smooth and, aside from the higher resolution, accurate to the N64 version. I wasn't the one playing so I can't speak to any input lag but as a spectator the video was actually much better and more reliable than steam's remote play and streaming features. This has been my Nintendo Online + Expansion Pack N64 Collection testimonial, thank you for your time.

ive played the game. its not fresh, its just recycling stuff from swoshi and sumo but worse. every zone looks the same. the first three areas have almost entirely the same pokemon for no reason. the boss "fights" are the most deranged braindead trash ive ever seen. the pokedex is a good idea executed so poorly it simply involves grinding out fights/captures to progress. the quests seemt o have been imported from an mmo from the 2000s because they largely involve walking long distances to get three lines of dialog telling you go all the way to the other side of the map for three lines of dialog. its the only pokemon game ive ever stopped playing. however im sure the braindead morons who give assassins creed good scores and played 6 hours of it love it and therefore, its the best one ever.

Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain

No. 1 Callie Fan posted:

Shut up for a moment, Imma talk about Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain now.

So some of you might have some recollections of the DS and Wii era and its brand of casual games. One of the famous brands is of course Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training, which sold about bazillion back in the day. Anyway, there was this other brand called Brain Academy, which was much more lighthearted affair to the more clinical Dr. K. Long story short, the original game out in 2005(!), and since Dr. Kawashima was released again on the Switch, I guess Nintendo looked at Big Brain and decided to give this series also a shot at it.

Quick rundown, there are 20 different minigames from 5 distinct categories of different mental capabilities. While in some you do simple calculus, in others you identify and match stuff, all within a 60 second period. You first start in baby game mode, but the better and faster you progress, the game eventually throws you into brain twister mode. And that's basically the core game. Do stuff quick, brain get smarter? I don't know.

Not the most exciting description so far, but there is a small hook in trying to do tasks as correctly and fast as possible. Throw in the online mode, where you can either race against the recorded game runs of your family's, friends or of (anonymous) players from all around the world for that competitive tick. The world challenge is especially built in a fashion that you get big brain points for smashing drunk middleaged salarymens brains in at the start, but go thru the two initial batches of the day and the game will start to throw you some brainier opponents against you.

Is it worth it? Eh, maybe. It's got a party mode with a difficulty handicap and touch screen support (for two players only, three or more need regular controllers), so it might be good for a laugh or two. If you enjoyed Brain Training style games, I don't see why this wouldn't fit your bill. The price is also half of the typical Nintendo price, which might still be too pricey for some, but there's also a demo out who are sitting on a fence.

It's a fun novelty game that you would expect Nintendo to make. That's my take.

Bonus content: Nintendo interviewed the folk behind the game series.

No matter what games you want, get an account at Dekudeals.com. It’s a price checker that you can fill out a wish list on that will warn you when the game you want goes on sale. At this point every first party Nintendo game has been on sale for at least $40, most of them less. BotW was $30 multiple times in the last month, so if you want to maximize your money, it’s essential. (that said I paid $60 for BotW and it’s worth twice that easily, any sale is like gravy.

A few of my favourites that haven't been mentioned yet (I think):

Thumper: Rhythm-based racer with a great sense of dread. Hardly ever play it because it makes me anxious. That said, when you manage to perfectly smash all the beats along the unravelling road of a neon-metallic dimension and destroy its grinning demigod ... Feels good!

Baba is You: Solve deceptively simple-looking environmental puzzles by changing the meaning/reality of things by pushing grammar blocks together ("Wall" is "Grass"). It's made by a Finn so loosen your lovely brain with lovely vodka every time you feel stupid (you will kill yourself within the first five levels).

Obra Dinn: A first-person detective game where you piece together the strange narrative of the trade ship Obra Dinn by investigating scenes frozen in time. You can brute-guess your way through the whole thing but you don't have to. Every solution can be deduced.
The "You solved it!" vignette will pump you the gently caress up.

Tetris Effect: It's Tetris but evolved. It bleeds its 90's techno-hippie heart into a theme of universal interconnectedness around which the new mechanics and cross-platform multiplayer modes are based.
The singleplayer takes you on a slightly embarrassing but genuine world-music journey where the superb layering of synched beats, sounds and effects occasionally come together to liberate your brain.

These games aren't Switch exclusives but the handheld factor complements them and makes them the best versions.

Rupert Buttermilk posted:

If you like RTS games, Pikmin 3 Deluxe :haw:

The smilie there isn't because it's bad, it's because lately, I won't shut the gently caress up about it. The game is gorgeous and wonderful.

I saw this, took a peek at my library and realized no one ever talks about/recommends Bayonetta 2 -- possibly the best action ever made -- so I'll go ahead and throw my hat in for that. Did everyone Platinum the game when I wasn't looking?

The first Bayonetta is also very, very good, but I feel like the sequel improves on almost everything so it's kind of hard to go back for me. Definitely worth a quick playthrough, though, especially if you want the plot to make any sense at all (you might not).
