Hello baseball peeps. I basically just ignored MLB for the entire season after being disappointed at how the PA caved on negotiations and the Cubs ownership basically decided to do gently caress all good over the past couple of years.

What cool stories have I missed? Especially if they're Cubs-centric.

The ones I know of:
Trevor Bauer banned for two years (good, gently caress him)
Pujols hit HR #700 (cool, even though I think he hit about 500 of them against the Cubs)
Judge hit 62 HR during the regular season (cool, except for all the hot takes surrounding "Home Run King" we undoubtedly have now.)

Tatis getting busted for PEDs was a big story

Makes sense to keep him. It will be interesting to see how the team performs under him when he gets a full spring training to prepare.

Yeah clubhouse culture matters and absolutely has an impact on performance that can't be easily quantified. Sorry but if the Phils stick with Girardi I don't think they even sniff the postseason.

Ya no doubt. How much of an impact, who knows but there is definitely one. And ya there is no chance Phillies make it to the playoffs let alone the WS with Girardi in charge.

Here's my take on the Jays:

By trading away Hernandez they are lining up to sign Verlander.

The pitching rotation will be:

Manoah
Verlander
Gausman
Ryu
Berrios

which will be solid enough to actually win some playoff games (assuming that Ryu comes back healthy and is actually able to pitch).

They will then trade Kirk, Jansen, or Moreno for a team friendly outfielder to make up for trading Hernandez.

I genuinely think they will be going all in here before they have to start paying Vlad and Co. some serious money.

Also Ryu is dead and not pitching next year.

So little faith. What are you a leafs fan?

But seriously they are totally going to sign Verlander. They are going for it. All in.

Poor Ryu :(

What the Jays are actually going to do is sign a left handed OFer, hopefully Nimmo and then sign someone like Stripling or Syndergaard to be the 4th starter. They'll try and fix Kikuchi again (which won't work) and some combo of Kikuchi/Tiedmann/Zulueta/Thornton will be the 5th guy. They'll sign a reliever as well and then trade a catcher to fill whatever other hole they think exists.

That probably costs them most of the 40 million they have, and I don't think that anything beyond an OFer will be for more than a year or two if they can help it cause they have to pay Vlad and Bo and the money they get from Ryu and Kikuchi loving off forever only pays 1 of them (though I guess the Springer deal mostly pays the other, but you have to replace him and maybe Chapman etc).

Ya this is probably what they are going to do. It seems very Atkins-y.

But Verlander..... he's just there waiting to sign and he's cool and good.

First off, that's a pretty good doodle of Toronto.

Second, I think the hate is more that if that section becomes popular then it might spread to other parts of Toronto which could impact the Jays. Either way Shapiro is a dick.

That whole saga was nuts. Really underscores how all these rich assholes are focused entirely on their own tiny bubble of convenience and nothing else.

How? How many people drive to Jays games? That stadium is extremely well located at the center of both the urban and regional transit networks. They could shut all car traffic down within several miles and still draw 40k+ to a weekend game.

How it impacts the Jays in reality? No idea. Probably not at all. I was just throwing out one possible idea.

In regards to who drives to games; I would assume it's not that many because the traffic in Toronto is horrible.

Giants back out cause of whatever medical thing they find and

A) He goes to the Mets and is perfectly fine through however long he ends up playing out of that contract

B) It pops up at the worst time and becomes a huge problem and he basically sucks now

It's definitely B but A would be cool.
