That was Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, a more slapstick oriented series focused around Sonic, Tails and Robotnik (which ironically was actually probably the closest in tone to the games of the 3). Sonic Underground came later and I believe was actually a dub of a French made cartoon called Sonic the Rebel. Shows like Code Lyoko and Totally Spies were also imports from France. I know there's a new Avatar show in the works. I personally wouldn't mind seeing a show focused more on the adults in Rugrats as I seem to remember them being far more entertaining than the kids were. On the other hand, the show more than wore out it's welcome while it was on the air (in fact, it started to go downhill as early as the first movie to the point where they were introducing new characters every season in a desperate attempt to keep things fresh) so I'm not sure how I'd feel about a revival. Looks good, though I'm more interested in hearing how the new voice cast is gonna sound, Alan Young as Scrooge is gonna be a tough act to follow but to be fair the guy is nearly 100 years old so I understand the need for a change (I highly doubt Donald is going to be recast though, same with the triplets to a lesser extent). Speaking of which, I hope this carries over the one thing Quack Pack did right: Give Huey, Dewey and Louie actual distinct personalities rather then having them be carbon copies of each other.

Craptacular! posted:For the height of it's ratings, Power Rangers was a M-F show sandwiched between Tiny Toons and Batman. It's Saturday episodes were always reruns. Funny thing about Syber Squad, not only did it borrow it's fight footage from Gridman but the two shows have almost the exact same plot as well. The show even got a proper ending of sorts but then they decided to extend it out further by just reusing Gridman footage from previous episodes and adding new dialogue. Craptacular! posted:Probably the weirdest success story of the second-tier toku was VR Troopers. Saban already had MMPR, and this was clearly not going to be as successful as PR and did not have the same level of production and seemed like a likely cancellation. But then at some point it stepped up and began following through on it's drama, what with the lead's missing father turning out to be one of the villain's minions. Then the quest turned from "find my dad" to "free my Dad from the chief villain" and that culminated in a multi-parter where he was actually successful. Then it somehow managed to land another season and had to transition to a different source footage with both heroes and villain evolving to new costumes. VR Troopers was actually mashed together from three seperate Metal Hero shows. The main character and villian came from Metalder, the other two members came from Spielban and the main character's new form from later in the show came from Space Sheriff Shaider. I'm pretty sure the concept of the talking dog was also directly adapted from one of the aforementioned Metal Hero shows but I forget which one. Yeah, that's typically why you have adult women voicing young boys in a lot of cartoons as otherwise unless you plan on aging the character in real-time eventually the kid's going to hit puberty and not be able to do the voice anymore (not sure why they don't just do that in this show instead of constantly changing the cast around to be honest, they do at least acknowledge it in-show though which is neat). Yeah, Sonic Boom is kind of hit or miss but when it hits it's really good (probably my second favorite Sonic cartoon after Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog as those were the only two that realized this is not a concept you need to take seriously). Speaking of the older cartoons I've always wondered, what exactly was wrong with Robotnik's classic design that they felt they had to change it for the American cartoons (though Sonic Underground was technically a French production that got dubbed)?

You can't really tell much of a difference but apparently in this series Donald is now voiced by Daniel Ross (who also currently voices him in a show called Mickey and the Roadster Racers) rather than Tony Anselmo. Not entirely sure why, unless Anselmo is planning on retiring or is unable to do the voice for some reason.

Sometimes Disney decides that actors don't "sound themselves" anymore, Disney once declared that the voice of Piglet didn't sound the same age anymore and hired a new one for the Pooh movies (though the old one voiced the theme park rides that opened at the same time). I see, I just thought it was kind of odd that they would suddenly use one actor for some productions and another for others rather than do a full replacement (especially seeing as Bret Iwan and Bill Farmer continue to voice their characters in everything they appear in).

You could probably get the majority of the cast back pretty easily as well seeing as I believe most of them are still in the industry. Only problem is that the show was already pushing the limits of what could be allowed to be shown in a kids cartoon so removing those limits runs the risk of the show going overboard ala the terrible Ren & Stimpy revival back in the 00s.

Benne posted:I tapped out in the middle of Season 2, but I heard the show got much better by the end, so maybe I'll go back and finish it at some point. Yeah, while the series as a whole isn't quite as good as it's predecessor the last 2 seasons are probably the best of the whole show. It's just too bad the first half is kind of rough as the first few episodes are actually really good, then, as has been mentioned, it gets bogged down with unnecessary details and has to rush to finish it's story (the reduced episode count per season probably didn't do them any favors either). The latter half is a lot better paced in that regard. If there ever is a third series I hope they learn from their mistakes and pace it more like the first show (that is, one continuous story rather than loosely connected mini-arcs). Then again, the prospect of there even being another show is doubtful at this point seeing as Nick doesn't really care too much about the franchise and I'm not sure what other network would be willing to pick it up (or if that's even possible as Nickelodeon probably still owns full rights to the property). There are still avenues they could cover if they did one day decide to make another series though. I don't remember if this has been touched on in Korra or the comics but it might be interesting to know just what Bending is, is it something you're inately born with by chance or could it potentially be taught to anyone with enough work? Also, if the Avatar is capable of using all 4 elements what's stopping any Bender from trying to learn another element as well? Larryb fucked around with this message at 14:06 on Jun 8, 2017 |

In Korra's case, she couldn't quite get Airbending since her own mindset wasn't quite in tune with what wss needed for Airbending. Problem with that is in a later episode Avatar Roku, a natural Firebender, admits to Aang that he at first had difficulty learning Waterbending, which would seem to imply it is an issue with the two elements being opposed to each other (at least partially). Also as bad as Korra's second season was I did kind of like the little arc they did about the life of the first Avatar.
