So I recently got Netflix, and I was pleasantly surprised with the selection of great movies and shows. I quickly amassed about 60 shows and movies in my Queue, and I'm constantly adding more. I'm realizing that it is going to take a while to get through all of these. Are there any studios or content providers whose contracts are close to ending? I know that a bunch of Starz content vanished after a contract dispute, and I would like to know what I could potentially lose in the next few months.

Alfred P. Pseudonym posted:This does happen in the first season, but it lessens as the show goes on. Also, if Sorkin preachiness bothers you, do not under any circumstances watch The Newsroom. Speaking of the Newsroom, is there any way to watch last season that doesn't involve ? I just finished the first season of The West Wing, and noticed the preachiness, but didn't really have a problem with it. I think the only thing that really stood out as out of place was Donna, who seemed to only be there as an audience surrogate. Normally I would forgive that, but the way they went about it just felt really off.

I remember hearing about the movie mostly because it was Heath Ledger's last performance. I like Terry Gilliam quite a lot and thought I'd check it out fairly cold. Definitely make some time for this if you can. It's very well done.

Sept. had almost nothing new added for any of the shows I've watched, but now in the past week, they have added new seasons to four shows I am watching. I was so desperate for anything just a few weeks back, now I am flooded and want to start them all!... First world problems. Fall shows generally premiere mid-September, and the previous season is released on DVD (and therefore Netflix) around the same time.

They managed to somehow both confuse the heck out of me an hour in with Khan's convoluted backstory and yet still left me confused as to his motive. I didn't mind the allegory since it's better than the ridiculousness of other blockbusters like Captain America: The Winter Soldier. If they had framed it like that, you would be complaining that Spock released a genocidal Superman in order to save one person.

outy posted:The film isn't without merit, although Cruise is literally a foot too short for the role. Werner Herzog was creepy, the fight scenes well handled and there's a very visceral car chase. Yes, the action set pieces are pretty good, but that's about all the movie has going for it. Of course, some of them, like the aforementioned bathtub fight scene are just loving weird and out of place tonally. Really though, it's as if the writer decided that, since the audience knows the hero is going to prevail, he might as well save himself the trouble of writing conflict or character development. Reacher knows exactly what happened the moment he shows up, and the entire investigation is essentially window dressing to move from one dick-punching scene to the next. There's this ridiculous scene about halfway into the movie where Reacher writes something on a piece of paper, then lets Rosamund Pike figure out the mystery by herself, only to then reveal that he had written the name of the responsible party. It's as if someone decided that Pike needed to be shown as a competent lawyer without questioning the notion that Reacher is always the smartest guy in a room. Speaking of Pike, she was loving hung out to dry by this director, somehow managing to be the weakest link in a chain of weak links. e: The film also features one of the most unintentionally uncomfortable shirtless scenes in recent memory.
