Has anyone put forth the effort to cite all the "Impeach Obama!" quotes from Republicans? And not just the talking heads and Foxnews (although seeing all those would be great, too!), but actual elected officials and party higher ups. I know there have been, even fairly recently. I had to put up with "He needs to be impeached" from both my brother and my sister's husband over Christmas. I had to leave the room before vomiting. A few months ago they were on about how disrespectful Obummer was for taking selfies at Mandela's memorial. I dropped about W's selfie with Bono, and there was some grunting and the topic changed. The brother in law is a morning dj for a country station, and likely wants to be a Rush clone.

And I especially love the "And the Obama administration sits idly by..." Can you imagine a president allowing people to voice their opinions freely? It's un-American! He must be impeached! Unless Democrats want that, so he mustn't (but he should {but I didn't say that, some Democrat said I did [but he should]})

I had an experience with a guy like this earlier this summer. I was at a teacher development workshop on mechatronics, and didn't know anyone. Or so I thought. This guy comes up to me at a break and goes into "Hey, remember me?" Turns out he'd worked at my school a few years back. For a week. He had been hired to teach technology but kept asking when we were going to "give him the lessons". Especially Office, since he didn't know that. Wait - he's supposed to teach tech to middle schoolers and doesn't know Office, or that he has to make his own lessons? He was gone before kids started. Anyway, part of the workshop was at a multinational company that makes precision gas control devices. The CEO was married to our former head of school , so I chatted with him about her. Moustachio asks about the company working with car companies. The CEO replied that they tend to take outside ideas and make them their own. Moustachio then says, "Oh, right. That's what I call the Jew effect." My jaw dropped and I edged away, hoping to not be associated with this dipshit.

Really? No more takers on the culture quiz? O.k. The old guy is Howard Jarvis, the original "dang-nabbit, taxes!" businessman/republican/lobbyist who passed Prop 13, which slashed property taxes in California by 57% . Not too surprisingly, he was a lobbyist for landlords, who told renters the prop would drop their rents. Guess where the savings went (shhhhh - it wasn't used to lower rents! ). In his Wikipedia article, he is described as a "horrible man". With citation.

As an older goon, I can definitely say that kids are less racist, at least in some senses. As a high schooler back in the 70's in Virginia and Texas, there were no interracial couples. None. Zip. And this was in a fairly moderate, large suburban school. Just wasn't done. Teaching at a very small school now, there have been several "mixed" couples. None of the kids think anything of it. I'm not saying there's no racism at all, but things have definitely changed.

Deep Hurting posted:What, exactly, are they talking about when they insist Obama has "wrecked the country over the past six years," anyway?? Even if it's just something that's entirely imaginary; they keep saying this, but they never bother to explain it, like it's just patently obvious or something. I've had some students parrot that in class (high school). One I asked that very question, and the best he could do was "Obama's selling all our debt to the Chinese!" He just looked confused when I told him that the Chinese only had around 11% or our debt, most of it was owned by either the government itself or American individuals or companies, that Obama had nothing personally to do with who buys the debt, and that foreigners buying our debt was something that had gone on for decades before he was elected. He gets his info from Grandpa, a fine specimen who apparently amuses himself shooting squirrels in his backyard. Another spouted that line and had no comeback when told that unemployment was down, the stock market was setting record highs regularly, corporate profits were higher than ever, and the wealthiest people had more money than any time since the 20's. They really don't have any info beyond "Obama bad! Ruin 'Merica!" And it's not hard to figure out where they get it. *Cough*Fox News*Cough* (directly or through parents/grandpa)

No, there's apocalyptic groups all over. In fact, Daesh (AKA IS/ISIS) thinks that they will lose most of their people in battle, until there are only 500 (5000?) fighters left in one town in Syria, and then the Apocalypse will happen and they win in the end.

I had a coworker bring this to my attention yesterday. She was going "But there were no trains nearby!" And when she played a few I noticed that on several the sounds were identical. Also that they usually begin just before the sound, and not cutting in when it was already going. Looks to me like someone getting train noises on video and then others jumping on the bandwagon with copycat vids. Much like the whole crop circle thng.
