I think the idea's interesting, but.... the price tag. $200 for a set of four steel table legs attached to clamps? Or if you have a piece of furniture that defies the laws of physics you can get one for 50.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/957579505/the-floyd-leg?ref=card

They're also horribly designed.

The clamp has way too small of an area. I see a lot of people just screwing INTO their totally hip, reclaimed outhouse door-turned-desk. I mean...it will keep it in place, I guess, but be harder to unscrew and it will make the surface wobble.

And then on top (well..on bottom) of that are the feet. They really should have adjustable feet on the bottom to deal with both uneven floors, and uneven table/desk surfaces. Which, if they're used as intended on old, reclaimed wood, will be most of them...especially with those small clamps screwing into the wood.

Fake edit: Oh, I see they actually do plant to increase the size of the clamp on the production model...still could use some adjustable feet, though. But then they wouldn't look as nice, and this is CLEARLY form over function at play, here.

Is it just me or is there something really...off about this kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lix3d/lix-the-smallest-3d-printing-pen-in-the-world

It's another 3d printing pen. And to their credit they have a development plan and put a lot of effort into the proposal and their website. But the video and the fact that everything about the donor tiers and rewards makes me think this isn't a funding project and more of an ad. Something just seems wrong here.

Hack A Day sperged out pretty hardcore on the thermodynamics of it and determined it's BS:
http://hackaday.com/2014/05/03/ask-hackaday-can-the-lix-3d-printing-pen-actually-work/

The odds that this pen will actually work while being powered by USB is pretty slim to nill.

Probably not an out and out scam - I mean, the videos look like it's actually working, but I'm guessing it's plugged into a standard wall outlet, not a USB port.

So in other words, it's just a slightly prettier-looking 3Doodler.

Remember that crazy expensive Kickstarter juicer that used one-time use pouches? Like the Keurig of juicing?

Turns out you can get as much juice by squeezing the pouches by hand.

quote:

One of the most lavishly funded gadget startups in Silicon Valley last year was Juicero Inc. It makes a juice machine. The product was an unlikely pick for top technology investors, but they were drawn to the idea of an internet-connected device that transforms single-serving packets of chopped fruits and vegetables into a refreshing and healthy beverage.
Doug Evans, the company’s founder, would compare himself with Steve Jobs in his pursuit of juicing perfection. He declared that his juice press wields four tons of force—“enough to lift two Teslas,” he said. Google’s venture capital arm and other backers poured about $120 million into the startup. Juicero sells the machine for $400, plus the cost of individual juice packs delivered weekly. Tech blogs have dubbed it a “Keurig for juice.”

But after the product hit the market, some investors were surprised to discover a much cheaper alternative: You can squeeze the Juicero bags with your bare hands. Two backers said the final device was bulkier than what was originally pitched and that they were puzzled to find that customers could achieve similar results without it. Bloomberg performed its own press test, pitting a Juicero machine against a reporter’s grip. The experiment found that squeezing the bag yields nearly the same amount of juice just as quickly—and in some cases, faster—than using the device.
