Nah, that's actually a super racist depiction of Arab people. Racism is, sadly, the opposite of badass

I don't necessarily dispute that it is racist, but any negative caricature of a minority if going to appear at least somewhat racist. It's not an easy line to draw.

This article is poo poo. Ironically racist depictions, made to draw attention to racism, are not racist.

I don't really find Hebdo's cartoons to be ironic though.

They're explicitly satirical. If you think they mean something else in their heart of hearts, that's on you. Maybe they go too far, but they are at least attempting satire.

idk, i don't really see any sort of platform for saying that a minority that thinks something is racist isn't racist... and saying it's just satire, or they're just sensitive, or people just don't get it (me i guess from your reactions) just seems to lack empathy.

It is possible for minorities (just like everyone else) to misinterpret things from time to time.

i think 'misinterpret' is a bit of an understatement if it leads to 12 people being shot to death imo

Misinterpretation combined with mental illness. Non-mentally-ill people don't kill over a cartoon.

I didn't realize it was an organizational attack. That's pretty interesting.

There isn't any strong reason for grocery stores to be a government monopoly even if there were a government controlled branch. If a private grocery store can out-compete a government store while following all regulations and still being profitable, then the government store needs to step up it's game, or else admit that the free market won out for that market. If the private store can't make itself competitive, then clearly it should remain a government enterprise.

e: basically, because government enterprises don't need to worry about shareholder/personal profits, they are able to compete for many markets, and set a floor for quality and prices in those markets, without needlessly throttling innovation and efficiency that clever individuals or companies come up with.

Maybe you have trouble with the concept, but people are allowed to have different opinions, even stupid lovely wrong ones, and still be worthy of respect. Stantis is clearly capable of reflection and critical thinking, and that shows in his cartoons. He's coming at it from a different angle, based on some crappy perceptions, but he puts some thought into what he chooses to support.
