No, the driver circuts that controlled the on and off function were fried. I guess i could have if i wired to to be constantly on when it it was plugged in but that would have been a bad idea, so the toggle switch.
Speaking of bad ideas, somewhere around here I have a motion activated birdhouse/food processor combination (Never used, I am not a monster and I like birds.). That thing is a hoot, it will chew up a pencil pretty quick.

It is pretty much what it sounds like, I somehow ended up with a birdhouse painted by some random kid and i had a food processor and i put the two together with some electrical bits and a motion detector. It would turn on with a five second delay if i stuck anything in the bird house hole.

Edit for I like birds. And would not hurt one.

isn't the point that it just looks good to space things that way?

that's the only way to apply the Golden Ratio in any way that aligns with reality, yeah, but most folks still see it as some kind of big artistic secret.

It also looks good to space things a LOT of other ways. There's even evidence that other arrangements are found more aesthetically pleasing by more people on average.

I mean ultimately that's probably pretty close to how the whole thing started. Some dude probably made a really insightful observation at some point about how the GR can describe an aesthetically pleasing composition, and then tons of people took it to be a direct causal relationship until someone heard about it and popularized it as some obscure law of art.

Squashing Machine posted:

I've thought long and hard on this subject.

1) It's dog semen
The prevailing theory. However, there are many problems with this theory. As Garfield is at least a family-friendly comic strip, if not expressly produced for the consumption of children, then why would Jim Davis expect his audience to know that it's a cup full of semen or to even know what semen is? Additionally, why would the semen be stored at room temperature in an open container? Was Liz planning on artificially inseminating a dog immediately after giving Garfield his checkup and just letting the semen warm up in the meantime? Finally, ingesting semen does not cause dogs or humans to become pregnant. Totally bogus.

2) It's medicine for pregnant dogs
Somewhat more plausible. Despite the same questions raised over Liz storing the liquid in an open, unrefrigerated container, it's possible that it could be some sort of medication or nutritional supplement, also implied by Liz specifically saying that Jon was going to have a litter of "healthy" puppies.

3) It's cold coffee and Liz is loving with Jon
Jon says it's a "cup of coffee," and from the angle he should be able to see it's a black or brown liquid. Drinking unexpectedly cold coffee could cause the reaction Jon displays in the third panel, because people generally find room-temperature coffee to be unpleasant. And, historically, Liz has regarded Jon with a kind of withering amusement, and it would fit with her character to make up something to shock and humiliate him.

4) Jim Davis doesn't know how babies are made
Jim Davis has made a media empire out of the comedic and artistic equivalent of unflavored yogurt. He's a dim, simple man who tapped into the collective consciousness of a dim, simple people. It's entirely possible that he has no concept of how puppies are conceived. Maybe the joke makes complete sense to Jim. Maybe Garfield operates in an alternate reality where insemination is not only possible orally, but across genders and species. If nothing else, Jim Davis is likely some kind of sex pervert. Just look at how the lady with spiders for eyes is posed. She's practically presenting. She reads as the kind of sexual freak who would leave a coffee cup full of dog cum just sitting around her workspace. Maybe she jacked off Odie immediately before Garfield's appointment. The fact that this comic strip---which has haunted me ever since I read it in Garfield: Life in the Fat Lane: His 28th Book as a child---still runs in syndication is a cruel joke. When Jim Davis is finally tried and executed for corrupting the nation's youth, I hope that there's huge crowd of spectators and that they greet him with howls of execration.

ANOTHER DEMOCRAT: Careful as you go! The Republicans will never stand for services for all! You must reign in your idealism and prepare to negotiate for half of what you want, lest you get nothing!

ACT II:

The FLOOR of CONGRESS

DEMOCRAT: I propose a bill providing for healthcare for all!

ENTER A REPUBLICAN

REPUBLICAN: Healthcare for all is but the first step on the path to dreaded Communism! If you push for health care I will fight you tooth and nail and have your name dragged through the dirt! My constituents will never vote for you!

DEMOCRAT: The votes of your constituents are very important to me, because I find my own voters very fickle! I am prepared to settle for market based insurance available to all. What do you say to my generous compromise?

DEMOCRAT: The votes of your constituents are very important to me, because I find my own voters very fickle! I am prepared to settle for market based private insurance at inflated rates required of all, with penalties for those who refuse. What do you say to my generous compromise?

ACT III:

An OFFICE. A group of LOBBYISTS are just leaving

DEMOCRAT: Well, I have passed a bill today in the Congress to make all Americans purchase health care from a private insurer for minimal coverage at high rates on pain of tax penalty! Lets see what my constituents have to say about this grand victory!

ENTER A CONSTITUENT

CONSTITUENT: You have sold us out to lobbyists and Republicans! This new law is awful!

DEMOCRAT: I had to be pragmatic to get anything done at all! You just don't understand the art of negotiation!

CONSTITUENT: If I had any other choice I would vote for them instead! Perhaps next election I shall just stay at home!

CONSTITUENT storms out

DEMOCRAT: Why are my voters so fickle? If only I had the Republican's voters instead! That gives me an idea!
