You basically have to sign up via iOS app, Android App, or Amazon whatever (app?). Then download the app on the PS4 and just sign in. I don't think you can sign up via computer/browser.

Just download the app to your phone and sign up through that.

They are a lot alike, and Monhan is about 150x more fun, as my 150 hours may attest. I think you're being a bit disingenuous here, honestly, because I remember the reveal trailers of Horizon and many of the initial comments around the web were about how it was a single-player Monster Hunter game with robot dinosaurs instead or regular ones.

There are cosmetic differences for sure, but gameplay wise HZD is aping the monhan formula in a way that's similar to how Ni-Oh apes Bloodsouls. You go out in the wilderness, trapping, stripping, and crafting. Using stealth and agility to carve up giant beasts into requisite parts for future equipment. The moment to moment gameplay in MHW is just so much loving better. Hell, just simple things like climbing, swinging from vines, grappling, sliding, jumping, and dodging....basic concepts of movement feel soooo much snappier and more accurate in MHW.

Can I easily grapple onto a wingdrake and then slam down with a charged thrust into a mounting attack on some bloated fool? Yes.

Can I run up a wall, jump off it and spincombo down the back of a T Rex? Yes.

Can I don a glider suit and use geothermal vents to push me into the air while peppering some lizard rear end motherfucker with his own dung? Yes.

Can I dress my cat-slave up like a total goddamned goober? Yes.

Can I jump off an impossibly high cliff and slice a dragon's tail off sending him careening off another cliff into another dragon and then watch them then duel each other while I sit back and barbecue meat? Yes.

Can I drop giant rear end rocks onto lizard skulls, or catch three huge dragons in the floodwaters of a broken dam that washes them off a montaintop, or buy my friends meals made by a one-eyed feline sushi chef? Yes. Yes. And Yes.

And it can literally all be played solo or with friends.

A revelation that I had after I built my longbow out of a Legania's corpse that LOOKS loving AWESOME and has a porno name like Snowfeltcher or something...is that the kinetic, exciting movement of the bow class in MHW (just 1 class out of 14) plays better than the entirety of HZD, a game that only features bow combat and nothing else.

Seriously, I've had more awesome moments in 1 month of monhan gameplay than I've had during entire years with other games. That is all. Monster Hunter owns.

I like Monster Hunter too but all of this is like dumb tumblr meme poo poo that doesn't make a case for it at all.

I also like HZD and think comparing the two is pretty loving dumb.

Both have dialogue trees
Both let you switch weapons on the fly during combat

Tell me about your PS4 compatible headsets. I’m losing the final strands of tape and plastic holding my Sony Golds together and I need something new. I don’t think I’ve got $300 for A50s, probably something closer to $100-150. Anyone have the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 or 700?

HyperX recently released a wireless headset, the Cloud Flight, and I've owned them for about a week and am enjoying them so far. Super comfortable, solid sound quality (it's stereo not surround, but their stereo sounds a lot better than other "surround" headsets I've tried), and some insane 30 hour battery life. Only annoying downsides for me are the LEDs are on by default and they contribute to battery drain, so you have to click 2 buttons every time you turn on the headset to turn the lights off, and my old headset had separate volume wheels for game and voice chat, which were a really nice benefit I had gotten used to, and the Flight only has the one wheel so you might have to fiddle with on-screen volume controls once in a while.

Otherwise, recommended.

Yo, questions. I'm a 1080p tv user. Does the new supersampling option only work on non pro-supported games? And is it worth leaving on or does it cause performance issues?

Actually, it's the opposite. It only works on Pro-supported games that have a higher res mode that's only selectable if it detects you have a 4k tv. Basically it tricks games into thinking your tv is 4k and unlocks their 4k mode.

Leaving it on could affect performance if the game has been shown to run slower in its 4k mode.

Weird. So for example, Shadow of the Colossus lets you pick performance or resolution. I'm assuming therefore that the supersampling option would have no effect on that game? Or would it supersample even when on performance mode?

I think for that game it would have no effect, because even 4k tvs running Performance Mode are getting 1080p, cause that's what Performance Mode is designed to do. Some games already do their own supersampling so this new mode should have no effect on them. Just for games that lock out Resolution mode or 4k auto-detect from 1080p displays.

I think this is where my expectations might be skewed because the modern dev cycle has really limited the amount of quality AAA titles that can come out in a console's life cycle. Like, we had three Uncharted games and Last of Us from Naughty Dog on the PS3, and so far on a console that's been out since 2013 we've got one and a half Uncharted games and we're still waiting on the next Last of Us. Same for God of War, four titles on the PS3 and one on the PS4 that didn't even hit until near the console's fifth birthday. I'll always support quality over quantity but I legitimately think that all the Uncharted games on the PS3 were worth playing, and while I didn't much care for God of War, I think most people still thought that 3 out of 4 of those were pretty drat great.

I actually think there are more quality AAA games coming out on a constant basis on the PS4 than any previous console, the only difference is they're not all from the same dev. Like you said, development times for those type of games are longer now so a company like Naughty Dog puts out less games during this generation, but the sheer number of different devs currently working on games means that you're still getting big releases all the time. It feels like every other week there's some big great game coming out and I find myself playing catch-up way more these days than I remember doing during any of the previous gens.

That's not even getting into the infinite list of indie games coming out daily.

So I did a stupid thing and traded in my perfectly fine PS4 Pro that I had for about 7 months for the new model with the supposedly quieter fan. The fan noise has just been a constant annoyance for me, even before I found out it was a common thing in a lot of Pro models.

Holy poo poo it's like night and day. On God of War and RDR2 on my old Pro, the fan would constantly blast at (I assume) max speed and sound like a jet engine. On the new Pro I tested both games and I literally can't hear the fan changing from any more than low hum.

Again, it was a total waste of money and no one should do what I did, but I'm kinda glad I did? Also I now have an extra copy of RDR 2 I need to trade in or something.

Anyway point is, when i put the lid back on and relaunched rdr to see if i broke anything, the fan ran at a different, less annoying pitch. :iiam: but maybe the lid was improperly seated on it to begin with?

Do you have a 70xx model Pro? I really think it's some sort of hardware design issue. My fan ran super loud from the moment I first booted it up and started God of War. I eventually traded it in for the newer 72xx that just released and I basically can't hear the fan on the new one at all playing RDR2, GoW, etc. Whatever they've done internally on the new ones worked.

I saw the same test video, which made the difference seem minor, but just from my personal experience the difference is insanely huge. LIke the difference between a vaccum cleaner and a low hum. Not sure if it matters that decibels are measured on a logarithmic scale, so each 1 dB difference is an order of magnitude more/less than the previous value.
