Loved this movie so much. Seeing it for a second time later today. Very glad that none of the fan theories turned out to be true because they were all stupid. It seems like the reason why people are so critical of this film is that they spent two years building up this idea in their head of exactly how they thought the movie would play out. Because it was nothing like that, they instantly hate the Last Jedi.

Jun 22, 2004

Nah, giving Snokes motivation would have been completely pointless. His motivation was to end the Jedi once and for all and to train an apprentice, nothing more. This is the story of Kylo Ren and Rey, it was that story from the very start. I completely disagree that this movie veered off course from the Force Awakens.

Just got back from my 2nd viewing. Even better then the first. I think the best way to summarize the Last Jedi is that Rian Johnson destroys Star Wars, and in doing so he creates the best Star Wars movie.

This. The whole premise of Star Wars is absurd. Rian Johnson takes that and runs with it and it's glorious.

Loved the trailer. Really excited for this movie and excited that it's coming out in May. I like that Solo might not be as charismatic in this one. This is suppose to be a Solo that is inexperienced and arrogant. He is much younger then in the original trilogy.

Better would be if Han Solo legit dies and then someone comes along, take Chewie with them and takes Han Solo's name and it becomes canon that Han Solo this entire time was an imposter.

Conversely, no, it's not disastrous by Disney's standards. It made over a billion dollars worldwide, and currently only 3 movies of Disney's have made more, TFA, Avengers, and Avengers 2. (Though, to be fair, Black Panther will probably pass it at this point.)

Picking out it's 2nd weekend drop doesn't really mean anything in the overall picture. It made a ton of money, and Disney wants him to make his own trilogy. There is zero reason to believe Disney is planning any course correction due to this extremely successful movie, and plenty of evidence to say they are quite happy.

Black Panther is at 1.3 billion worldwide now. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=marvel2017b.htm

I've said it before, but the ST broke cnut. I don't hold them in very high regard either, but I was disappointed he refused to approach them with the same level of criticism he applied to the OT and PT.

To be fair we've had years to break down the prequel and original trilogy, and read about other peoples analysis. The sequel trilogy has not been out long enough and still has one more movie. No one bothered to really get into why the prequels were terrible movies until years after that trilogy finished in 2005.

He might have contributed significantly to getting the main characters where they needed to be, but his contribution to the final battle is beyond insignificant. He manages to destroy a tank and avoids getting captured for a bit, and that's it. I guess you could take this as drawing out the battle and thus keeping the battle droids out of the city, allowing the other characters to proceed with their parts of the plan. But that'd be a stupid take, it's not like the droids would teleport back into the city if they had defeated the Gungangs in half the time. Once the Gungans had lured the droids outside the city, their part of the plan was done with.

All the viewer knows is that it's vital that the droids leave the city to engage the Gungans, which they do in the middle of nowhere. The movie does nothing to establish a necessity to draw out the battle, that's why much of it feels so pointless.

I think the Naboo intentionally wanted Gungans to get slaughtered. They did admit this would probably be the outcome.

Lucas hasn't done anything else since then. He hinted at doing some small movies that he has no intention of the public seeing. Which pretty much means he is making home grown porn. He is also busy building low income housing in wealthy parts of California, for the under privileged and to piss off the wealthy elite.

Some people still can’t get over the fact that the canon has changed and prequels are good now. Prequel haters are nothing but a shameful minority now.

A couple people posted screen grabs of the prequels with lines on them made in photoshop, and said "THIS MAKES A GREAT MOVIE!" over and over again until everyone started agreeing with them just to get them to shut the gently caress up.

To be fair though Luke had credible information to suggest Vader was extremely hostile and dangerous to him. Vader's intention was to turn Luke, but Luke did not know that at the time.
