Barudak posted:Like, Mission Impossible seems to be doing just a-ok fine pulling in the big bucks and every single one is a spy thriller without whatever the hell the people making the last 4 bond films have thought he needed. At some point it became really difficult to make a classic Bond film because, y'know, times change. Casino Royale was so good because it seemed like a fresh, modern take that threaded the needle and balanced "slick, womanizing white man with bottomless wallet travels the world and saves the day" with "but also let's be real, this lifestyle would be enormously traumatic and this would be a broken human being." After that, they tried but they never really found that balance again. Right or wrong, the folks in charge of Bond films think there needs to be an emotional core to a modern take on Bond. Mission: Impossible has no such limitations.

General Dog posted:I was addressing a phenomenon of people who have not expressed a preference for being referred to as "they/them" (rather, expressed no pronoun preference at all, to anyone's knowledge) being referred to as such. Like if someone's pronoun preference is unknown, you default to "they/them" rather than trying to guess. this goes back to the potential conflict between how someone prefers to be referred to and how you/someone might assume they should be referred to; which is to say because we have largely been conditioned to associate he/him and she/her with specific presentations we might, having not learned their preferred pronouns, label someone as he/him or she/her by default, which might be against their actual wishes. so they/them is the right and polite way to handle it, as it prevents you/the speaker from accidentally misgendering that person.

I guess if you're talking about stuffing that comes straight out of the bird and hits the table, sure, it's a gooey mess. But if you're not baking some stuffing separately (or even just baking off the stuffing that sat in the turkey), you're missing out on a delicious heterogeneous plate of toasted bread, savory seasonings, and vegetables. Yeeeeah, without knowing the life and background of everybody who may say it I'll stop short of calling it white privilege but there is absolutely a certain naïveté to going full accelerationist. There are enormous swathes of people whose ethnicities, genders, religions, or sexual preferences mean their lives will immediately be made far, far worse—if not straight-up endangered—by a Republican president who's backed by a Republican legislature open-palm slamming the fascism button. I loving hate Democratic leadership as much as the next guy, but there's a huge gap between the garbage we have now and How Bad it Can Really Get.

We got two air fryers as housewarming gifts and kept them both because air fryers are so goddamn convenient. There are weeknights where dinner is five minutes of prep, 15-20 minutes of dueling air fryers, and some quick steamed veggies. Twenty-five minutes, start to finish, for something that'd normally take longer and be a little less healthy. They take up a lot of space, but they're nifty.

I started a new job three weeks ago, and on the first day I had to check in with IT about an issue my computer was having with Creative Cloud. After he left I was able to fix it through some Googling and dicking around in Terminal. I didn't wanna deal with the ramifications of "I dicked around in Terminal" so I just told him a reboot fixed it somehow.
