For most liberals immigration is just a thing they have a knee jerk negative reaction to because the pictures are scary and Republicans are the ones pushing the worst policies. Their beliefs have no actual substance though and they have nothing to offer as an alternative to just kicking people out. As a result they just kind of drop the issue when their guy runs ICE because in their minds making the concentration camps more humane is the best we can hope for.

I’m not joking when I say that Republicans have a MUCH better understanding of the issue than Democrats. It’s a sociopathic understanding that has a lot of racist insanity baked in, but it’s a position that actually makes a lot of sense if you’re unwilling to radically alter capitalism, the way nations interact, or the ways workers organize across borders. There’s a reason why Republicans (including Trump) win running on it despite every liberal on the planet constantly waging their finger and calling them racist in unison.

Most liberals just have a gut feeling that "having smart people in charge" is super important, and they think Biden is putting smart people in charge.

Liberals cannot fathom the idea that intelligence and ideology are mutually exclusive.

It's dumb, but that's the logic.

Also, there's an assumption that the tax will fall most heavily on trucking companies, which lol if you think an $800 billion a year industry is going to let that happen.

Gas is what economists call an "inelastic good" meaning that demand doesn't actually change that much regardless of other factors like price. You aren't going to stop going to work or cancel your weekend camping trip because gas is $4/gallon this week. You just eat the cost and move on with your life. This is literally just a way to squeeze money out of normal people to pay for the bill because God forbid we make the wealthy/businesses who profit from the roads do so.

This tweet bugs the poo poo out of me because there's no contradiction between any of these flags in the context that they're being used. None

The snake flag isn't actually about the big bad state taking away ur freedoms. To them "the state" isn't the cops, the CIA or the military. It's those evil minorities and the poor who would use these tools to push through reforms which would negatively affect them in some way either through increased taxes, diminished power or decreased control over the culture. In their minds they (read: white people with money) ARE America and this new society that's come up in the wake of the civil war/the sexual revolution/the fight for civil rights/etc that shares money and power with their inferiors is something else that's eating the good America (the "real" America if you will) alive from the inside. A hostile force that must be defended against and destroyed if necessary. That's kind of what fascism ~is~. This person isn't stupid, they simply identify with those in power more than those they oppress. They know exactly what each flag means and people like this aren't accomplishing anything by cheekily pointing out that when you use THEIR definitions of these symbols there are contradictions because nobody gives a poo poo about other people's definitions.

Honestly I'm incredibly tired of this game people play where they try to get somebody to abandon their beliefs by pointing out hypocrisies or contradictions. The contradictions aren't actually there half the time (because liberals don't understand conservative thought as well as they think they do and vice/versa) and when they are nobody cares because most people don't try to fit their worldview into a single perfect coherent model of everything. Just explain why the underlying ideology is bad or fight them directly and get them kicked off of the local PTA board or whatever. This isn't that complicated.

From Michael Parenti:

Also Democrats have become the party of stasis and protecting the status quo since the 70s which made them very popular with certain sections of the capitalist class including the media. As a result a ton of news coverage is basically just Democratic propaganda which pisses off conservatives.

I think what breaks these people’s brains is that for a certain segment of the PMC meritocracy is actually a real thing up to a point. If you are useful to your boss you get rewarded and pulled up the ranks. It’s certainly true in my case at least (I’m PMC trash btw. Feel free to purge me when the revolution comes).

What they fail to see though is that the rules of this bubble don’t apply either at the bottom of the ladder (where most jobs are dead ends) or at the top (where people can succeed because they have a lot of money to throw around). Capitalists in particular operate on a set of rules completely alien to most people who can’t fathom one’s “job” just being buying companies so you can sit on them and rake in profits off the top.

It all started with the closest equivalent of the Canadian army shooting up a U.S. church on Christmas Day. Israel ramped up police presence massively during Ramadan, inside mosques for whatever reason, then this fighting broke out with the media claiming it "wasn't clear who started it". This event was quickly buried after Hamas retaliated by launching missiles, killing seven Israeli civilians, and then Israel responded by bombing Gaza and killing hundreds of civilians.

Ah. That explains it, thanks. It’s astonishing how bad the media is at communicating the basic facts about this stuff.

mass, racialized homeownership was possibly the most powerful anti-communist policy in the US, and they've decided to get rid of it for a few quarters of extra profits off rent

One of the most baffling things about the current moment is that the system could be very easily stabilized by doing a modest wealth transfer to ensure the middle class has at least some foothold into the next generation. You don't even have to stop loving over the poor or deal with racist institutions like the police. If around 55% of the public is comfortable enough they'll rationalize the system and work to keep it going regardless of how hard it fucks over those at the bottom.

And the rich are throwing that away because they have to have *all* of the money instead of *most of it*. They need those last precious drops of blood held by the middle class no mater what and are probably going to destroy the world trying to get it.

It’s always interesting to me how so few people seem to realize that the GOP *already* run the country. They’re billionaires, cops, industrialists, bankers and CIA agents. You can’t “keep them out” of political institutions because they *are* those institutions.

E: Fascism isn’t a force that takes over a society from outside itself. It’s when the controlling interests of a country fear change is inevitable and use lies and violence to triple down on old power hierarchies and reinforce their own positions. Which is absolutely going to happen here in the US once democracy has outlived it’s usefulness as a chew toy to make people think they have any sort of control over the inner workings of this hellstate.
