Now, I just recognize openly that these people are twisted so far around that they're settling on classism to avoid nuanced thought. It makes me want to vomit, and I'll let them know that they make me viscerally ill with their opinions.

It is always pretty funny how, when it comes to politics, people always get so worked up over the most harmless of fluff pieces.

The "Eda Torial" guy is a laugh riot all on his own. He apparently owns a local insurance business. He's spent several replies telling me to "find a barber and a razor" and to "go find a job" to find a way to "become important" and "serve my fellow man" and "go become a man."

Which is hilarious, because he knows nothing about me or what I do, he's a fat douchebag with one of those buzz-cuts that gets all white above the ears, and his main photo is of him with two half-dressed girls at some motorcycle convention. I politely reminded him that, "with as douchebaggy a profile picture as yours, you may want to back off the ad hominem attacks."

I really don't know why he hates beards so much.

Plus, I'm sure that if I told him my main "job/way to be 'important'/serving my fellow man" was that I am an artist who does massive amounts of local illustration work, (oftentimes pro-bono for non-profits) he would mock me as not doing something real or important--and his wife owns and runs an art & music education center out of the same place he sells insurance!

Obama's past has been difficult to stitch together. It had to be exotic enough to make Democrats feel like they were making a difference, but American enough that the majority would vote him in. Difficult to achieve, and some details here-and-there slipped through the cracks. There was no Baskin Robbins. There was no first kiss. Michelle was assigned to Barack when he graduated from Secret Muslim Terrorist Training Camp in Kenya. Together, they are a well-oiled machine, two blades working in unison to whittle away the edifice of American society and leave naught but Gay Shariah in its stead.

I'm seriously asking. My grandfather's WWII-era dress uniform had three different thicknesses, with one coat being wool and intended for colder weather. Even the thinnest one, for summer, was just thinner wool and hot as a bitch. That's the Army though, maybe the Marines couldn't give two shits about you freezing your junk off.

I think the trouble is most words for that concept presume that someone--usually the speaker--wants what they're decrying. I can't really think of a word for wanting nobody to have exorbitant wealth, besides the political terms which change like the dunes.

There's "equality" and "equity" but those are concepts and, in reality, Conservatives think we already have equality and need to shut up about outliers (who purposefully failed out of a working system). Whereas Democrats concede wealth redistribution is hugely important but that flow is dammed up by lobbyists, leading to a Republican Lite party (All the flavor with none of the effectiveness!)

Anything more left-wing than that (Socialism, communism) is where you find philosophies primarily concerned with the provision of equity. But they've been stretched into unrecognizable bogeymen by despots using them as a mask, and a century of rhetoric about those selfsame despots by everyone to the right.

And man, the Google results for "Anti-wealth" lead me to conclude there's no rehabilitating THAT particular term, either.

I'm not an economist by any means, but I can't help but ask:

If everyone made a minimum income, and then people who had a job had income from that on top of it, wouldn't people who worked still be better off? (As if that matters) and so people who don't want to "work" for a living get just that: a living. People who want more than that (luxury) get jobs. Plus, the fact that they're at work at all shows they are willing and able to perform their task. And then, if you balance the taxes so most of that subsidization for the poor comes from the very highest earners, there would be practically no reason for the people with crappier jobs to grumble about the people who just use their government stipend to live.

That's the system I imagine, and I don't understand why anyone would begrudge another person basic existence as long as they can have better stuff, whenever they want it and the person sitting on their rear end, uh, can't.

I know it's unworkable, but it only seems unworkable because of people's preconceptions of justice and "how the world works".

Yeah, I've had more than a little of this, and in a NE US city. One time I got into a discussion with someone in which they asked me what my "purpose" in life was. I could only explain that I felt life had no inherent purpose beyond the biological foundations already extant. This was followed by telling me it was because I don't believe in God, and that if I believed in God I would serve Him and my purpose would be to go to Heaven. It was weird, because I wasn't sure what she expected me to say, exactly. I wasn't about to start believing in God, and I wasn't about to attack her beliefs to feel righteous in my own.

So I just shrugged.

Yeah, they're acting like decent human beings because they're decent human beings. The problem is what you said for one, that people are defensive of their religion and will justify endlessly. Also Christians (anecdotally, I grew up Roman Catholic, am no longer) are fed a constant line about our bestial nature being right below the surface. Without constant maintaining the evil will erupt like weeds in a garden.

Few people self-flagellate anymore, but you still see people psychologically abusing themselves and policing their families instead of accepting normal thoughts/experiences/feelings/actions. I don't even want to get into the things I've heard women in my family say about abusive husbands, or LGBT friends say about parents who kicked them out/cut them off, all because of some unattainable virtuousness.

I can understand wanting to be pious, but I think crippling oneself will make the pilgrimage harder.
