What do people normally do with all the various +stat seed items?

Do you use them to patch up deficiencies on teammates, or just slap them all on the hero character?

So I finally got to the point in DQ 6 to start killing from metal king slimes for some quick xp.

I checked out this video for some tips, but for the life of me I can't figure out which skill he is using with Carver to kill the metal king slimes.

He says it is a martial artist skill, but I don't recognize it.

That was Harvest Moon, the level 7 Luminary skill.

EDIT: Heads up, this probably only works because Carver is level 99. There should be nothing about the skill that makes it useful for killing metals, so don't get your hopes up.

Ah, thanks. I've never touched the Luminary class so that explains it.

I guess I'll just stick to hatchet man.

I enjoyed the DQVI remake, but I don't ever see myself playing through it again.

I'm just hoping now that DQ Monsters: Joker 2 doesn't get lost in the 3DS buzz and actually gets a local release.

Also, to make it slightly more on topic, anything special I need to know for 8? I've played 1-3 on Game Boy and 4 and 9 on DS.

The most important advice I can give for DQ8 is to make sure you grind enough levels to get Multi-Heal for Angelo before a certain boss fight.

You'll know the one when it comes.

As an attempt to breathe some life back into this thread, there's a month to go now until Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 comes out in the US. I haven't seen much info out there on it, though. What's the differences, if any, it has from Joker 1?

Most of the improvements are with the online multiplayer. Single player scenario seems similar to DQJ1 with a world scouting tournament.

I did see someone post this though which sounds neat.

quote:

The new draw-in is that monsters now have different sizes (1, 2, and 3. The max. on a team is three) which limits the power one team can have. No more badass teams of max. stat monsters ruling the tournaments. But size 3 monsters are so massive other monsters look like ants and respectively have more power and can attack 3 times.

My gripe with DQ8 isn't the skill system itself but rather how few skill points you get. You can screw yourself badly by not meticulously planning your build, and even a well-planned build will not put points into a couple of each character's skills.

I wish DQ8 also would have had a better item crafting system.

Even if you knew all the item recipes and went out of your way to start making things as soon as you could get the required components, usually you'd just end up with gear only slightly better than what you'd have through normal play at that point.

Guys, I've hit a wtf moment in Dragon Quest IV and have no idea where to go. I'm about 14 hours in and I have to find my wife, I think. I am at a castle on the south east continent that looks a bit like South America on the map. Someone said to me he thinks the chancellor is dodgy. Someone else asked if I'm going to embark on a quest to find my wife like my father did.

I just have no clue as to where I'm meant to be going...

If I remember right, you check the chancellors room and there some odd item you find in his closet.

When you use the item outside it will warp you to a new location.

I remember being stuck on this part since there's so many stupid knick-knacks that you wouldn't normally pay attention to the item.

It depends on what your goal in the game is.

If you just want to beat the main campaign, it's not too bad since you can just keep on grabbing the strongest monsters you can when you get to new areas. That's usually enough to get you through.

But if you want a team of made of special-boss monsters... then yeah, the amount of redundant breeding and grinding required is excessive to say the least.

It's always fun to roll up to the casino in the old games with $5 in your pocket and just doubling up until everyone is kitted out with platinum armor.

That said, I never had much luck save state abusing the DS DQ games. All the values seem set as soon as you enter the room, so all battles just end up playing out the same. Same goes for the dice rolls on the TnT boards.

I tried a few different emulators with no difference, so I'm assuming it's just how the games are programmed.

I'd snag a golem as soon as they start showing up in encounters. I found them one of the few monsters worth using over the human classes since they have
a ton of base damage and defense, yet can still equip almost all types of weapons and armor.

Doesn't it ask you if you want to equip an item when you move it to the inventory of a character that can use it?

So when do you get a all party heal anyway? From the looks of it, Dhoulmagus is coming up soon as I just got the ship. Also when can I get revival items so if I lose Angelo, I can get him back and healing again.

Sometime before the fight with Dhoulmagus there a magic pool of water or something that fully heals you party. Just play normally until you get there and then grind levels until Angelo learns multi-heal.

It shouldn't take too long.

Both Dhoulmagus and Sir Leopold had the sweet-rear end blue skin with red bird wings design when they got possessed by the staff, yet Rapthorne, the one actually possessing them, is a fat purple genie who exhibits neither of those features.

Also is there a good place to grind xp at this point of the game?

Right before the boss of the ruins there is a pool of water that restores all the hp/mp of the party.

Grind there until Angelo gets to the level that he learns the multi-heal spell at.

After that you are pretty much set for the rest of the game.

Good news homebrew savvy 3DS owners who are also Dragon Quest fans! Pretty soon you will be able to play the DQ game that was most recently released in Japan, in English! I don't have an exact date, but at the rate progress is going, I would expect it to be ready within the period of time that exists between several weeks and a couple of months. Right now, work is being done to port the translation that was done on the vanilla version of the game over to the newly released updated version, which then has a little bit more work to be done. Patches for both versions of the game in question will be released to accommodate anyone who might have purchased the old one.

So, if you have finished with VII and VIII but haven't figured out the whole homebrew thing yet, now is the the time to do so to be ready for more DQ related fun in the near future.

Can you offer any updates on the project? Is it still on schedule or did it hit a snag?

Definitely beat the optional boss at least once since it gives you more game story. It's not that tough of a fight. Red using blade cascade at high tension should be all you really need. Just have Morrie buff her tension while the other chars are on heal / revive duty.

After that you have the option of re-fighting the boss over and over again, each time making it harder to beat. That is completely optional and you're not missing anything by skipping it.

So for now we did decide to drop the patch for the vanilla version of Joker 3 for the sake of getting something that has been stalemated by bugs for most of this year out in time for X-mas. I don't know how playable it is or what bugs remain, and I didn't really proofread any of the final translation stuff since we never really ^finished* the project so to speak. I mostly did names of monsters/items/etc and the descriptions of skills/spells/monsters. It should have 100% of the game in English, but be advised that if you do use the patch, there could potentially be critical game breaking bugs and the quality of the translation might be rough in spots.

Been playing through the first few worlds and so far the only crashes I've hit are when you try to open some of the hidden stealth chests. Everything else seems pretty solid.

I'm curious though, who was the poor bastard that translated all the deep scan text for the monsters?

There are like 500 monsters in the game and most have a little paragraph blurb if scan them on the overworld.

Overall that's like a short novel worth of flavor text that most players will never even notice is there.
