There have been rumors for several months now that Jaime’s storyline will diverge significantly from A Song of Ice and Fire for season 5. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Jerome Flynn filmed on Portstewart Strand, Northern Ireland for several days with characters in Dornish clothing, confirming the men would be headed for the southernmost region of Westeros.

More details of a major new scene are emerging now, according to Los Siete Reinos‘s sources in Spain. Los Siete Reinos reports that in this scene Jaime and Bronn arrive in Dorne to find Myrcella and Prince Trystane kissing. Myrcella is surprised to see her “uncle” Jaime, and Trystane offers his hand in greeting to Jaime, who offers him his left hand instead.

Heated words are then exchanged between Jaime and Trystane, and the younger man tries to draw his sword. Bronn knocks the prince unconscious. After this, the three Sand Snakes enter. A fight between the group ensues, until Areo Hotah shows up and orders everyone to put their weapons down.

This information is credible since there have been unconfirmed rumors of a Jaime/Snakes skirmish for a while now, and then a few days ago, a video of Nikolaj rehearsing a fight turned up.

Keyworth has had a few roles in British film, television, and theater, and recently graduated from RADA, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. I know her best from her role as Marnie an adorable, profane young pregnant woman in the Season 2 finale of Misfits.

I would guess some kind of reworking of the "where do whores go" scene.

What a dick.

Nitpicking here but Rast in the books has nothing to do with the mutiny. He's a dick to Sam in Book 1 but he stays at Castle Black and ends up dying in the raid. The mutiny beyond the wall was fomented by other guys including Chett, who lost his job to Sam. Of course the show was different just for the sake of economy, probably.

Yup. I would guess that they're escorting Sansa, Robin and Littlefinger from the Eyrie.

Anyways after watching the trailer a couple times it looks like there'll be some good stuff, particularly the Brazen Beasts and the gladiatorial combat, the Faith Militant, and the rescue from Hardhome or whatever similar event they have going on in the North. The Dorne/Sand Snakes stuff looks incredibly cheesy but I guess that comes with the material a little.

So here's the HQ version of the trailer finally on YouTube if anyone hadn't seen it yet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wViILXQfX7Y

:spergin: ENSUES

Here's what I can spot:

0:00 Tywin lying in the sept
0:04 Looks like an Arryn convoy, so probably Littlefinger and Sansa heading somewhere
0:10 Night's Watch men approaching Hardhome
0:12 Bronn pulling out his sword with a spear pointed at him, Jaime nearby. Must be after their confrontation with the Dornish.
0:13 Brazen Beasts, I think.
0:14 Littlefinger creeping
0:15 Some guy buried up to his neck in sand, a couple of scorpions around him, two of the Sand Snakes (one of whom whips a bucket off his head), Ellaria and Trystane. Must be a new scene. Looks hilarious.
0:17 Dorne/Water Gardens I'm guessing
0:20 Wildlings evacuating
0:22 Young Cersei cutting her thumb for the Maggy the Frog scene
0:24 Margaery/Tommen wedding
0:26 Rattleshirt is back! Probably not for long!
0:28 Varys/Tyrion convo
0:32 Some kind of ritual at the Wall involving Melisandre. Possibly burning "Mance"? Not sure if that whole switcheroo will be included or not, but Rattleshirt being back suggests something.
0:35 Volantis, maybe?
0:44 This is probably the Maggy the Frog flashback too
0:46 Wildlings knocking at the door of Castle Black. I'm guessing this might be a group that tells them what's going on at Hardhome.
0:50 Jorah fighting in the arena. This is obviously a change. I suspect most of the intrigue about the mercenary groups and stuff is going to hit the cutting room floor. I kind of wonder if Jorah is even going to meet up with Tyrion or not.
0:53 The scene with Myrcella's locket in the viper's mouth
0:56 Here it looks like Melisandre is just burning a corpse on a pyre, which looks different from the one at 0:32. Different scene entirely? Dunno whose body it might be.
1:02: Wildlings charging some other group of guys dressed in black. They don't look like Night's Watch men though. Not sure what's going on here actually, I don't see any sign of wights or White Walkers who you would assume would be the threat if they are in fact doing a scene at Hardhome.
1:03 Jaime in Dorne with Areo Hotah behind him.
1:04 Not sure who this girl is, looking at casting photos it might be Tyene Sand? Or maybe just a random hot girl.
1:06 This line from Olenna is interesting because I'm not sure if she's threatening someone, or maybe warning Margaery or Loras.
1:07 Some quick cuts of fighting which include Jon and I think Jaime fighting a Dornishman.
1:09 A murdered Brazen Beast
1:10 Theon, presumably in Winterfell.
1:10 Bronn cutting down a Dornish horseman
1:13 Sparrows raising a ruckus in King's Landing. Still not 100% sure but I think the voiceover might be Pryce as the High Sparrow.
1:15 Arya at the House of Black and White/in Braavos.
1:25 Another shot of Arryn men
1:27 Bolton military planning
1:29 Tyrion/Varys
1:34 I'm guessing this has to be Drogon, but I'm not sure where he is.
1:35 More wildlings evacuating
1:36 Missandei kissing Grey Worm
1:37 This looks like some kind of small-scale fight/gladiatorial demo. You can spot Dany really briefly in the background.
1:38 Melisandre :quagmire:
1:39 Dany, Barristan, Grey Worm, Daario, Unsullied
1:39 Another shot of Jaime and Bronn in Dorne I think.
1:40 I think this is either Ellaria or Obara Sand with a bunch of spears pointed at her. Not sure what this is about. I wonder if they're keeping some of Arianne's coup plotline in there?
1:40 Someone's hand shaking... maybe Theon?
1:41 A bald Wildling holding an axe. Something in the foreground but I can't tell what it is. Maybe a wight?
1:41 A really quick shot but this looks like Brienne and Pod tearing into the Inn at the Crossroads. Only time they show up in the trailer.
1:42 This looks like guys with gold masks killing Unsullied. I assumed the guys with the gold masks were Brazen Beasts, but maybe they're sons of the Harpy? Or there could be some kind of double-cross that happens?
1:43 Margaery being naked, hugging Tommen, looking sneaky
1:44 Dany in the arena, protected by unsullied, surrounded by the gold mask guys. So maybe they're just the sons of the Harpy.
1:46 Harpy statue getting torn down.

Comments:
* it looks like the Meereen storyline is going to follow the broad strokes of ADwD up to the pit fight. Maybe some minor tweaks (in particular it looks like the Sons of the Harpy stage a coup during the gladiatorial combats?) and a lot of streamlining but I don't expect any huge departures.
* I have no idea what to expect from the Dorne storyline, at all.
* I'm a little confused by the "Hardhome" scene mostly because of the shot at 1:02 which seems to show two human armies colliding. But in broad strokes it looks to me like the first few eps will have stuff going on at the Wall with Stannis and Melisandre, then Jon heads off to save some Wildlings and probably pisses some people off in the process. Not sure if he'll get stabbed at the end of the season or not.
* Speaking of Stannis, I don't see any indication that his winter campaign is included in this season. There's the one shot of the Boltons doing some strategic planning, but that's it. I suspect they're saving it for next season and we might only get a couple of quick check-ins on Theon, Ramsey and Roose.
* Very little for Sansa and Brienne to do this season, I suspect.
* Didn't see Sam at all. I wonder if he and Gilly are still going to Braavos? No Bran either but that was expected.
* King's Landing again I think is going to mostly follow the broad strokes of AFFC and ADWD. Interested to see if Olenna has much of a role outside of that one line.

Best guess for where they'll be by the end of the season:
* Dany flies off on Drogon. BUT WILL THERE BE making GBS threads?
* Tyrion: not sure, the trailer didn't really give any indication beyond what looks like Volantis.
* Cersei does the walk of shame in KL. Margaery arrested midway through the season, the Tyrells try to deal with it.
* Jon rescues the Wildlings from Hardhome and returns to a very divided Night's Watch. I think Stannis might stay there until that point. I'm leaning towards no stabbing until next season.
* Theon/Roose/Ramsey are holed up in Winterfell, I suspect there might just be a few cursory check-ins this season and then we'll get to the meat of that story next season.
* Sansa/Littlefinger: no idea. Don't even remember where they're headed, to be honest.
* Arya: probably the point where she goes blind. Looking forward to seeing Jaqen again.
* Brienne/Pod: no idea. I did see them at the inn so maybe Brienne fights someone, but with Locke/Rorge/Biter all gone I'm not sure who. Maybe the Brotherhood?
* Dorne: :iiam:

Sucking pigs were served up crackling with apples in their mouths, and three huge aurochs were roasted whole above firepits in the castle yard, since they were too big to get through the kitchen doors. Loaves of hot bread filled the trestle tables in Lord Nestor’s hall, and massive wheels of cheese were brought up from the vaults. The Meerneese blot guy posted his impressions of the first four episode screeners on Reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/31a2k4/spoilers_all_my_advance_review_of_season_5/

Brief summary:
* Jon's plot seems to be the best handled overall.
* Dany doesn't do a heck of a lot, at least not in the first four episodes
* KL plotline has been "overhauled" significantly. In keeping with the trend of past seasons, Cersei isn't quite as insane and evil and Margaery is a much more obvious player.
* The Tourney at Harrenhall gets discussed (probably Littlefinger telling Sansa about it).
*

quote:

But it is another plotline that will surely be the most controversial of the season. The show has an uphill battle to justify an invented plot point that 99% of book readers are predisposed to think is truly insane. Do they succeed? Well, they gamely try, and they make use of some existing divergences in show continuity to present their case. Yet it seems clear to me that what happened in this plotline is that D&D considered some characters’ AFFC/ADWD plotlines weak and filled with unmemorable supporting casts, so they decided to spice things up by just shoving them together, with the justifications being tacked on afterwards. This lets some great characters and actors share scenes together, yet the feeling lingers that this is kinda dumb and forced. We will see if the later-season payoff justifies it.

This has to be either Winterfell or Dorne, but I'm not sure which.

EW also has a not very informative review up: http://www.ew.com/article/2015/04/02/game-thrones-ew-review

My favourite part:

quote:

But too many of the new faces look like they’re on the wrong show. When Cersei enlists a religious leader, the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce), to help her politically, his bald devotees, who carve stars into their foreheads, resemble cult figures from a Kevin Williamson drama. And when the show introduces Oberyn’s revenge-thirsty daughters (Keisha Castle-Hughes, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, Jessica Henwick), they’re closer to B-movie bad girls than warriors. George R.R. Martin’s characters are always psychologically compelling, but as they say on Project Runway, the styling needs work.

WOTW posted their impressions of the first four episodes: http://watchersonthewall.com/game-of-thrones-returns-in-season-5-with-magic-and-intrigue/

Some excerpts:

quote:

I’ll tell you this upfront: the season premiere as a whole isn’t as strong as last season’s first outing. “The Wars to Come” is all about setting up the season, and it does that very well. It’s more reminiscent of the second and third season premieres in that respect, but the pacing is on the slow side. It’s contemplative, giving the characters and the viewers breathing room to take in the new stories that bloom over the next few episodes.

quote:

In Meereen, Daenerys is learning that the effects of slavery don’t disappear when the shackles are broken. Chaos in the city is growing, pushing Dany to once again have to make hard choices that test her wisdom as a queen. Her growing pains extend to the mothering of her dragons, as well, with the creatures in their rebellious adolescence. The Meereen storyline is hopping this year, with a climax in the fourth episode “The Sons of the Harpy” that’ll leave you screaming at the TV and begging for next week’s episode.

quote:

The Wall is home to new dynamics this year, with the influx of Team Dragonstone. The shakeup is welcome, treating us to dialogue between the likes of Shireen and Gilly, and Jon and Melisandre. The Night’s Watch storyline is a mixed bag, in my opinion; while there are some great scenes, what should be a major moment in the second episode feels rushed and not that exciting.

quote:

ASOIAF fans may experience a little whiplash with this new version of Ellaria Sand. Indira Varma is wonderful and I love seeing her on fire and spitting out dialogue, but this character has little to do with Ellaria or Arianne from the novels for that matter, so adjust your expectations. Show-only viewers won’t have an issue with this, of course.

quote:

The threads of Game of Thrones come together more neatly and pick up the pace after the season premiere. Momentum is gained as the players plot and the bodies start falling. In forging their own path beyond the books, Benioff and Weiss are finding ways to surprise their cynical audience and like seasons past, viewers are going to thank them for every shock and twist of the knife.
Reading between the lines a bit, it looks like we shouldn't expect much from eps 1 and 2.

quote:

While Game of Thrones fans anxiously wait for George R.R. Martin to complete the sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire saga, the author has already set his sights on another project: A new television series titled Captain Cosmos about "a visionary young writer creates a science fiction series that tells stories no one else will dare to tell," Entertainment Weekly reports.

In 2013, as Game of Thrones was on the cusp of becoming the most watched program in HBO's history, Martin inked a two-year development deal with the cable network to create new series. While Martin has dedicated much of his time to the much anticipated book The Winds of Winter, he still worked on the idea for Captain Cosmos. According to EW, the series will take place "at the dawn of the age of TV in 1949."

HBO has yet to formally announce Captain Cosmos. With the fifth season of Game of Thrones set to premiere April 12th, Martin admits that it's important for him to complete The Winds of Winter prior to Season Six's arrival in 2016. "I wish it was out now," Martin told EW. "Maybe I'm being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I'm turning down a lot more interviews—anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done."

He's definitely in the running for the character to whom the show has done the most disservice, either him or Loras probably. Though as far as minor characters go I'm still kinda mad about how useless Qhorin Halfhand ended up being too.

I dunno. I came across another (badly written and fairly spoilery) review of the first four eps that seems to back up most of it: http://www.slantmagazine.com/tv/review/game-of-thrones-season-five
