That is kind of terrifying. I'm pretty sure I've seen more than a few stories about a chiropractor accidentally breaking an infant's neck because they have no idea what the hell they're doing.

It’s dumb as poo poo to test it like that, but, seriously, how did they gently caress it up? Use a rifle? Shoot somewhere the vest didn’t cover? Use an empty vest? Use a vest that wasn’t bulletproof at all?

Most "bulletproof" vests aren't really proofed, they're just bullet-resistant to varying degrees. Especially the soft versions used outside of the military will usually not stand up against rifles or even beefier handgun calibres. If the guy had a something like a .44 magnum and used it at short range, the bullet might well have gone right through even though the vest was in perfect working order.

Yeah, a while back I've picked up a variety of very dark chocolates with a high cocoa content to give them all a try. Anything up to the 70%-area was fine, 80%+ was alright but something of an acquired taste, but at 90%+ the stuff is basically just pure bitterness with little in the way of actual taste.

The implosion of the Mass Effect series is pretty impressive. They went from making one of the unquestioned greatest games of all time in Mass Effect 2, to a fan revolt that changed the public perception of the franchise 180 degrees with just a single lovely game release. It took Assassins Creed like 5 lovely games to get to that point.

Hell, I'd say that the majority of ME3 was just fine, too, not to mention the surprisingly fun multiplayer (though I haven't played it since shortly after release). It's mostly just that the ending was such incredible dogshit that it retroactively tainted the entire game.

why did he need that cheese stick?

There's a trick where you can soak your hands in a solution of alcohol and water and then set it on fire, and the combination of the alcohol's vapour pressure and the water's isolation will allow it to burn off cleanly without hurting you. Usually you're supposed to wholly dunk your hand into the solution to guarantee good and even coverage, so chances are he left some bits of skin uncovered and got them burned.

I honestly don't get why everyone always assumes that people are dying for a new half life game when most of the other valve games are way more fun than that series. TF2 was fun, L4D was fun, Portal was fun, Setting up turrets in nova prospekt was boring as balls.

I guess the schaden is on me for wanting something new and different from the most overrated developers in games history.

To be fair, HL2 is literally 13 years old at this point. When it came out, a lot of it was pretty goddamn groundbreaking as far as FPSs went. Actually discernible facial animations, a detailed physics simulation embedded into gameplay, a story that's told indirectly in a very immersive fashion, a number of unique enemies and weapons, and all of that based on an engine that turned out to be one of the most versatile and lasting engines in the industry. Setting up turrets in Nova Prospect was cool at the time because few (or perhaps no) other games at the time allowed you to just pick up a thing, plop it down anywhere, and watch as it's rocked back and forth and eventually knocked over by enemy gunfire.

Of course, the rest of the genre quickly caught up to that level and eventually eclipsed it, and now much of that is fairly standard fare. But at the time it came out, it just blew our minds. So apparently quite a few people are hoping that a theoretical Half Life 3 would be another massive leap forward like that, no matter whether that's actually possible or feasible.

It actually is. Keep in mind this is a AAA game based on the world’s biggest franchise. It’s like if Thor: Ragnarok had only made 200 million dollars. Like yeah that sounds like a big number, but the budget on that movie was 180 mil.

I dunno how much the budget was for Battlefront 2, but between the microtransactions beng taken out completely and the low sales figures it probably made a fraction of what they wanted it to make. Then again, judging by the way they made the game they probably wanted to make infinity trillion dollars off of it, so maybe that’s not saying much.

Yeah, just some back-of-the-napkin math, if each of those 880k copies sold for 60$, that's 53 million revenue best case (likely quite a bit less from sales through retailers instead of digital distribution). Against a budget that was supposedly in the neighbourhood of 200 million, EA is making huge losses on that. Sure, they were presumably banking on making a significant chunk of money through microtransactions over time, but even if they manage to outright double the money made from initial sales that way, they'll still fall short by a large margin. Usually the success of games like these is measured in whether they manage to hit their projected profit goals. This one might not even manage to break even in a reasonable time.

He's been on record about disliking actual mass public transit on account of having so many people crammed together. The Hyperloop is actually kind of a reflection of that, since it's intended to use only relatively small capsules with a capacity of <20 people, so despite the high speed you have a fairly limited throughput. So it's great if you're some high-paid professional who often has to travel between major centres like Washington to NY and back, but it's not much help if you're one of the tens of thousands of people who have a daily commute from their home to their workplace and can't use a car.

As I've mentioned before, if you look at any nation that has hate speech laws like you advocate, you'll find that those laws are not limited in application to the people you don't like. Germany recently prosecuted a comedian for making fun of Erdogan. Germany's new Net Enforcement Law is currently opposed not only by hard-right parties, but also by the Free Democrats, the Greens, and the Left party.

Actually, Böhmermann was not prosecuted. The prosecution investigated, came to the conclusion that his statements were obviously satirical, and didn't lay any charges against him. The relevant law that started the whole thing was also scrapped shortly thereafter, as it was basically an outdated relic that is no longer applicable to the modern world (much like a certain other document :v:). The whole thing was pretty much the system working as intended. Now, as for the the NetzDG, that is indeed garbage and mostly the fault of a certain minister who wanted to be seen as doing something. That said, it's borderline guaranteed to be either struck entirely or severely limited in scope once the constitutional court gets to it.
