I imagine if it's real and not a euphemism or cover for chemical weapons is like a gallon of the stuff you get at the hardware store for sealing gaps and cracks, it's like polyurethane in a foaming agent and hardens/expands pretty quick (not instant though)

Justin Tyme
Feb 22, 2011

It's almost certainly just a bigass batch of expanding polyurethane foam that's used in construction, noone is going to write white papers about it because the stuff was invented decades ago and most scientists aren't using it or thinking about it in the context of pursuing a genocidal war of aggression

Also lol at an expanding foam being "nonlethal" I am not a chemist but I would think such a reaction would be exothermic and leave nasty burns

So how is the IDF blinding their troops when training with it? How difficult is it to work with this stuff?

It offgasses irritating fumes during the cure process/reaction. It's generally not that hard to work with but again, that's in the context of like plugging an old vent hole and not a bunch of 18 year old reservists dumping gallons of it into a hole with no PPE

You can smell it but it's not that bad just out of a rattlecan but I can't imagine gallons of the stuff, it'd be super dangerous dumping it in a confined space like that

the mickey mouse-rear end structure of the IDF is loving with me, like 20 year old staff sgts and 22 year old sergeant first class. a SSG is responsible for a squad (like 7-10 troops) and a SFC is responsible for an entire platoon (30-40 troops). In competent militaries these would be like 24-25 year olds with a 6 to 7 year time in service minimum respectively. A 20 year old reservist ssg is asking for trouble and its a miracle they can even leave the motorpool in an organized fashion (but as we have seen with the fields of merkavas haphazardly rolling out in a giant blob, even that might be up in the air)

Frosted Flake posted:

How the gently caress is a SSG (is that a warrant officer?) responsible for a section?

That's on you guys too.

Lance Corporals should be leading half-sections and Corporals sections.

in the us army at least and only looking at NCOs, cpls-sgts are responsible for fireteams (nominally 4 troops), ssgs are responsible for squads (9 troops, 2 fireteams), and sfc are responsible for platoons (nominally 36 troops or 4 squads, but often include medics, RTOs, FOs, or any other embedded guys/gals). Above this usually is the 1SGT responsible for the company (3-4 platoons), then the SGM responsible for the battalion. I'd add a caveat here that this isn't strictly the case across the board and you'd fill positions with whatever dudes you have available if a unit is understrength.

I know the marines are different with their lance corporals, afaik the army equivalent are specialists but they're not considered to be NCOs. Specialists and corporals are both E4s, but IME corporals are rare and the usual promotion track is E3 > E4 (specialist) > E5. Only real high speed guys would get corporal and it was usually given as a reward for stuff like going to ranger school (and then it was only to cram them into a leadership position asap until a sergeant slot opens up)

Iirc the T-11 was designed to be larger to accommodate the weight of jumping in armor plus a generally heavier modern loadout, not specifically because troops are fat (though this certainly helps). The T-10D was old as poo poo and from a different era, and the military in general becoming more adverse to TBIs from dudes smacking the poo poo out of their heads on landing

In Hamas' case they could use them for new recruits to familiarize with moving around/crawling/vaulting etc before giving them real guns (or maybe there aren't enough real guns to use for training idk) or use in martial arts so you don't break anything/hurt anyone, otherwise yeah it's a little sus Israel just so happened to find a cache of rubber duckies in the form of what their opfor would use in training
