I fear it's a precursor to an organized campaign by the Federal Conservatives to import the UK's current wave of transphobia here. They love overpaying some consultant who'll tell them what other election-winning conservative parties are trying. Culture war bullshit is popular across the conservative anglosphere and the UK phenomenon has shown particular effectiveness at wedging out old bigots like Rowling.
