Ohio is starting to gradually reopen the state very soon. All "general offices" that were closed from the shelter in place order can reopen May 4th and I'm extremely worried for my safety. I work in IT, which means I will 100% be going back to the office when the rest of my company is. I doubt I will have any choice in the matter. I really, really, really do not want to be going back to work and I feel like I'm not alone here. I feel very safe in my controlled environment working from home. Sure, Ohio has done a better job in locking down the state earlier than most and minimizing spread of the virus, but I feel like it's too soon and I'm going to contract Coronavirus and spread it to my girlfriend and her family.

Am I just being a crazy person who is doomsaying and being overly cautious and scared out of my mind for no reason? I dunno, man.

Update on my work fears from earlier:

Looks like my job has voluntary return to the office on May 11th and mandatory return on June 1st with employees alternating days in a 50/50 team setup. I'll probably have to return to the office sooner than that, since I work in IT. I'll probably know for sure soon during tomorrow morning's department meeting with the CIO. Still really, really, really, really don't want to head back to work, but I'd rather stay employed I guess. They pay me very well and allow me a high standard of living and I'd rather not lose that! Yup, I'm in IT too and I've felt so much more productive and less stressed out ever since I started working from home. Yup, most people are terrified of going outside at this point when they see 800 new daily cases in their state alone and 30k nationally every single day without fail. Nothing is going to be back to normal for many months, if not far longer than that. People aren't going to be magically okay with going out for date nights at restaurants after their friends and family have contracted Coronavirus, or worse, died. No one is going to be shopping in significant numbers anywhere outside of their essential trips to grocery stores for a very long time. That's why delusional red state governors who think gradually opening their states back up will "save the economy" or whatever nonsense are just going a. kill people for no loving reason b. depress the economy even more when death statistics get out of control again. This is insanely stupid because not only is there more than enough commercially produced porn out there to last decades upon decades for the average viewer but there's also more than enough amateur porn on dozens upon dozens of websites all over the internet. Every porn company could shut down tomorrow forever and every person on this loving planet would still never run out of new boobs, vaginas, butts, and dongs to masturbate to as long as they want for all eternity. Amateur porn is probably more popular than commercially produced crap too and that's never going away.

Something that also isnt being discussed really, is that something like 3.5 million people in the U.S. have lost their health coverage during this. That is 3.5 million people that if they were to get sick with COVID-19 and end up in intensive care, or worst need to be on a ventilator, they would be in debt for the rest of their life. If you get sick in this country without health insurance, its better that you end up dying to be honest. Having a collection agency go after you for medical debt is pretty brutal as they take like 90% of your wages when you do finally get a job.

Or that countless retail, fast food, and other low wage workers are in red states where Medicaid access has been rationed and limited and aren't offered health insurance by their employers. That's if they still have jobs at all if they were working in the hotel, movie theater, restaurant, etc industry, which have been hit incredibly hard and hurt poor people the most. America owns because we have an entire underclass of low-income folks who are underinsured or have no health insurance because a considerable segment of lawmakers and society as a whole doesn't give a gently caress.

Part of the reason why our health care system is so abysmal is because you have wealthy rear end in a top hat lawmakers like Lindsey Graham who have no interest in engaging with factual information or reality itself, which leads to him seriously contending that unemployed workers struggling during the worst epidemic in the past century were making $17/hour, instead of, uh, maybe $11/hour, after they lost their job working the front desk at their closed hotel... and that's a high wage for many workers in our terrible economy.
