WWE has just been failing upward somehow, getting more and more for their TV rights fees that just seems unjustified. If they receive anything less than the previous offer, that stock is going to tank so loving hard when it's currently at an all time high. And with ratings declining it seems like they are not going to get the same rights fees they got at the last renewal.

The plan is to sell the company prior to the contract negotiations in the fall. The company then goes private, everyone finally gets to cash out on their stock holdings, and then when they get less for rights fees in the Fall it doesn't matter anymore. Vince would easily lose over a billion dollars if rights fees go down and the stock tanks before a sale.

this is more than just wrestling though. sports business journalists have been talking about the 'live tv rights bubble' popping for years now. obviously football or whatever is a bigger draw than wrestling, but its also pulling in more money for its rights licensing. i dont think the bubble pops just for wrestling, maybe smackdown ends up being the canary in the coal mine but imo wwe's rights fees dont comes down til they all do.

I'm reasonably sure that is not how any of this works? The Oklahoma Firefighters' Pension & Retirement System has a net worth of around three billion dollars and according to its reports has that spread around to a lot of different stocks/investment instruments. It looks like the vast majority of the "stock" they they hold, like $500M worth, is in Index Funds/investment funds, which is how most people's investment accounts work. These investment funds own the majority of WWE stock

it is how they work. cop unions are overexposed wwe, anheuser busch, and the parent company of oberto beef jerky.

Depends

From a fan perspective it was great. $10 a month is not much for a ppv every month (or 2 if the timing worked out on the day you subbed and the ppv date. Sometimes you could sub for 1 month and get 2 PPVS and unsub right after) and obviously their catalog

From business perspective I don't think they ever saw much growth in subscriors. I want to say over the years it constantly dropped and never got back to the heights it had when it launched. It would spike for the big 4 but it never retained that many.

Edit: also I think they realized selling access to their catalog is huge money. Peacock is like what 1 billion a year or something?

ah yea from that angle that makes sense. the licensing for the catalog is probably way more valuable than trying to sell it on their own.

The wrestlemania 17 main event literally booked the end of WWEs cultural relevancy and furthermore the peak of American soft power. Last pre 9/11 mania. America never made sense again like it did during the my way promo. Put it in the Smithsonian.
