As far as the pollling, it doesn't look like "claimed forum concensus" (which is the Ukrainians are absolutely smashing the Russia at every step doesn't) match that of the American public and if anything certain threads are rather extreme outliers versus the public (they wouldn't just say there is just an advantage but Russia is on its last legs as a country etc etc).

Basically, more than usual, it is certainly arguable that the SA forums in terms of inter-forum narrative are not representative of even the United States much less international options.

A lot of it is that people on here are a small demographic (compared to the US population) of terminally online/Twitter brained people who for some reason think your average person even cares about most of this stuff. Like 1/5 of US adults actually use Twitter yet there are people on here (SomethingAwful) who will claim to you that if Twitter went away tomorrow the front lines will collapse and Joe Biden will forget to send money/arms to Ukraine.

I'm sorry, but good literature is a +2,000 year old story about a Greek guy loving his mom and gouging his eyes out or a play by some English guy who's fame/acclaim was manufactured decades after his death. Not that prole stuff like a sweet lady finding true love (or at least true love for now) with a nice orc (Ork?) boy.

Edit: seeing as our education systems basically teaches people to hate reading, I'm not going give them poo poo for reading woman/man-on-orc porn. Not that it's *good* quality wise, but looking down on stuff like that is some real bourgeois "we do entertainment the *correct way*"

And again, depending on what school you went to your exposure to that kind of literature probably at best will be decent while at worst you're being made to read some 19th century tome without any context or link to it's relevance to today. I'll personally read some dumb sci-fi poo poo while also going through some professional/historical/classical text.

F-16's with the export AIM-9's would chew Russian pilots up pretty bad but I wouldn't like my chances against Russian air defences.

Also, you're talking about starting from near-zero with pilot training because the F-16 is nothing like the Warsaw Pact stuff Ukrainian pilots are used to.

Might as well give them export F-35's because it'd be about as big a job, logistically speaking.

I assume you mean AIM-120's because even the newer AIM-9X doesn't have the range to go up against even the older BVR stuff the Russian AF could field (9X is like 22 mi at best vs the old R-27 at ~50 mi). And while they've been pretty bad with combined arms, I've not heard or read any reports anything about Russian fighter jets being pushovers in A2A combat (mostly because of operating in friendly AD zones and using their range and better radars) - even from western sources. F-16's would give the Ukrainians a big boost in capability, but I don't think it would be enough to achieve air domination let alone air superiority.

bingo card keeps fillin up…

Putin: Worse than Sauron and Hitler…

Doesn’t quite stick the landing. Railing against orcs for pages and then trying to not sound racist at the very end. The only interesting question of the piece: how did Russians turn into orcs? The answer: I dunno lol, the end. At least there were a few paragraphs describing Melkor’s creation of the orc.

I enjoyed this, this is the pinnacle of American security state nerdistry. More people need to dig down into orc lore to discover the secret of the Russian mind using the template of racist caricatures created by beloved children’s author JK Tolkien.
