Overall pretty good day. Haha, that's why I was asking, Wolff's is the poo poo. I go there at least once a month for records. Did you get it from the guy on the far right side, near the wall? I always see a million players there. And the guy is real cool. Wolff's also runs an outdoor market in the lot of the Allstate Arena that's really good if it's nice out.

Is the Carl and the Passions you have one of those mid-70s Beach Boys comps with two albums in one package? Usually a basic white cover with one image on each side. I have Wild Honey and Surf's Up (I think) that way. If they green label Pet Sounds ends up with the worse sound, let me know. I'll buy it off you.

If I ever met Bob Ezrin, I'd want to ask him about Music from 'The Elder'. Vis a vis the amount of cocaine it took for everyone involved in that album to convince themselves it was a good a idea.

As a former Sears Holdings employee, it looks like this stuff is sold by a different store and fulfilled by Sears. Their website is really poor at differentiating that, to the point where it even says "Sold by: Sears" in the confirmation email. Sears doesn't stock records online or in stores. The dude who signs the "your order is processing" email was my boss' boss' boss.

What's the most reliable website for ordering turntable parts? I recently came in to possession of a Pioneer PL590 (for free), I'm looking to dust it off and restore it. Everything looks to be in decent shape, but I want to replace the needle because it's very old and hasn't been used in awhile. I shouldn't really need to replace the entire cartridge right? I figure I just need - New needle - Preamp and I should be good to go. I haven't fired it up yet, but belt seems to be in good shape as does the arm.

Yeah, I was just going to say... anyone who poo poo-talks live albums clearly isn't a soul music fan. James Brown at the Apollo, Sam Cooke at Harlem Square, Bill Withers at Carnegie Hall, Curtis/Live! Soul takes on a whole different sound in the live setting.

I don't know why people are always like "Who gives a gently caress about the cover, man? It's all about the MUSIC." Like, it's possible to want to enjoy something for both its functionality and its aesthetics. If I buy a book, it's to read the contents but that doesn't mean I wouldn't prefer a version with a cover that isn't all ripped up and water-damaged too.

Defleshed posted:I know this is not a popular opinion but I hate My War. I'm a big fan of the Keith Morris/Ron Reyes/Dez Cadena era. But I've always like my punk rock to be punk rock and not faux-intellectual poetry horseshit. I actually like Henry Rollins and what he stands for in the music "industry", but I've never liked any of his creative output. I love the Morris/Cadena stuff too (First Four Years is my favorite album of all time), but I think My War is great. It hits the perfect balance between the early stuff that just rips and the second-side, sludgy stuff. I have an affinity for sludge and doom, so I could see why that second half of My War would turn you off if you didn't.

I remember going to this hole-in-the-wall in San Antonio that left its door open at all times during the summer, so flies were literally escaping from the dusty smooth jazz bins. Shooting Star Records in Carpentersville, Illinois. It wasn't a bad store, but the guy who ran it was the prototypical "lazy record store guy" who didn't realize that yes, owning a record store is like having any other job. You don't get to just hang out and talk about music all day. He was constantly closing the shop for 2+ hours for "lunch". It seemed like the store was closed every single time I stopped by, regardless of it was noon or 3 p.m. I eventually stopped going, and everyone else must have too because they went out of business shortly after.
