There’s an Enterprise episode with Archer and Tripp undercover on a prison transport, trying to stay alive while getting information or something and also keeping their lovely ship together with their incompetent captors. You can pretend that you’re Riker watching it in the holodeck.

To be fair to the showrunners they *did* have also an episode where Trip rescues the ship while running around in his boxers. So while sleazy and gross, its not just the women of the show who got to run around half-naked for no reason.

There’s a whole episode with Reed and Trip locked in a basement in their tightie blueies, isn’t there?

Gowron as catcher so we can see his crazy eyes peering out from the mask. He’ll never catch a ball because the Klingon pitchers only try to hit the batter.

I mean she could have used a transporter. She ends up knocking him out or something so I thought she was targeting him and teleporting the dog is an easy way in. But I don’t want to think about Enterprise anymore.

Let’s be honest here. If you went by publicity stills, merchandise, TV ads (Staaaaaar Trek), and basically everything but the actual show itself, TNG was a show about guns’n’explosions.

I always thought this

was basically the perfect example of that dichotomy.

Sorry to triple post but this reminds me of this bit from IMDB's trivia section for "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and why the second pilot was successful:

quote:

After NBC saw this episode, they were pleased with the results and decided that Star Trek would be a weekly television series. Gene Roddenberry said that, like The Cage (1966), this still had a lot of science fiction elements in it, but that it was the bare knuckle fist fight between Kirk and the god-like Gary Mitchell that sold NBC on Star Trek.

So it's pretty much always had action as one of the main elements, but not from the get-go.

Can’t remember which thread it was but there was some discussion on how the bridge sets were a pain in the rear end to film on because of how the glossy screens will reflect the cameras and crew. With that in mind, this is pretty impressive because they do a pretty good job of avoiding that, even though everything is hella glossy.

It's an interesting convergence of videogame technology, the virtual background is done in unreal engine, the most common engine for high end videogames, since that's designed for real time movement around an environment. A lot of the UI stuff is in unreal engine too; for example, on the shuttle there's a little 3D display showing the shuttle's orientation, that's built in unreal and controlled in real time from a video game controller, IIRC.

Makes sense that it’s basically just a 3d game, it is really cool to see the industries converging. I can’t imagine how many video cards it takes to run it all.

Is Borg just short for cyborg? Why would this alien race use a name based on an English/Earth word? Is the universal translator doing that, and it’s actually some alien word for cyborg? What’s Klingon for Borg?
