Trump is just mad at Barack and Michelle because they have been making fun of him. It's a petty attempt at personal revenge and has nothing to do with Hillary.

I just wish there was something that Jimmy Carter could do to divert Trump even more. I'm sure there's some old submarine mate that doesn't like Carter that Trump could bring to the debate.

This is pretty lazy analysis. The number of potential voters has gone up in like every election, and the turnout was incredibly high in 2020. Regular republicans inspire far less passion than trump. I’m not saying the GOP is finished but their killing their own supporters in job lots right now, they’re going to really have to suppress the vote to win.

Turnout was greatest in 60 years, and during that time voting age population has grown almost 2.5 fold from 109 million to 257 million.

Also both parties' spending in 2020 elections was something like never seen before, final figure was over 14 billion USD. With nearly three times total campaign budget compared to 2016 you also do expect turnout % to increase somewhat, even if a lot of it goes to negative campaigning which is supposed to have the opposite effect.

I feel like people naturally see insanity as the opposite of rationality, which it is not. You can be sane but still drat irrational. Most of us probably are in some ways. Freepers also don't realize that Spartacus script was written by a blacklisted communist, Dalton Trumbo. Trumbo had continued his career with pen names after his sentence in 1950 but at the time of Spartacus he was finally given credit for his work again.

quote:

Howard Fast was originally hired to adapt his own novel as a screenplay, but he had difficulty working in the format. He was replaced by Dalton Trumbo, who had been blacklisted as one of the Hollywood 10, and intended to use the pseudonym "Sam Jackson".

Kirk Douglas insisted that Trumbo be given screen credit for his work, which helped to break the blacklist.[15] Trumbo had been jailed for contempt of Congress in 1950, after which he had survived by writing screenplays under assumed names. Douglas publicly announced that Trumbo was the screenwriter of Spartacus. Further, President John F. Kennedy publicly ignored a demonstration organized by the American Legion and went to see the film.

In his autobiography, Douglas states that this decision was motivated by a meeting that Edward Lewis, Stanley Kubrick, and he had regarding whose names to list for the screenplay in the film credits, given Trumbo's shaky position with Hollywood executives. One idea was to credit Lewis as co-writer or sole writer, but Lewis vetoed both suggestions. Kubrick then suggested that his own name be used. Douglas and Lewis found Kubrick's eagerness to take credit for Trumbo's work revolting, and the next day, Douglas called the gate at Universal saying, "I'd like to leave a pass for Dalton Trumbo." Douglas writes, "For the first time in 10 years, [Trumbo] walked on to a studio lot. He said, 'Thanks, Kirk, for giving me back my name.'"[4]

In reality, the public announcement of Trumbo's screenwriting credit for Spartacus did not come until August 1960, seven months after producer-director Otto Preminger's January 20, 1960, announcement that he had hired Trumbo to adapt Leon Uris' novel Exodus for the screen. Douglas later successfully denied Trumbo credit for the film Town Without Pity, as he worried that his continued association with the screenwriter would hurt his career.

Although there is this post script that makes you appreciate how lovely some people are:

quote:

In 1993, Trumbo was posthumously awarded the Academy Award for writing Roman Holiday (1953). The screen credit and award were previously given to Ian McLellan Hunter, who had been a front for Trumbo. A new statue was made for this award because Hunter's son refused to hand over the one his father had received.

You have an Oscar that you didn't win yourself and actually your dad only got for being a front for the actual writer. Of course you would never give it away.

I am for roundups and immediate mass deportations. If we could put bounties on illegals and let Americans round them up for the government, I'd go for that as well.

A first step, still can't believe it hasn't occurred, is simply mandate eVerify nationally for all current and future workers. No exceptions. Reinforce that fact that it is illegal, jail and fine, to hire an illegal. Offer rewards to anyone turning in an employer who continues to hire illegals.

No jobs should cause quite a number to leave the US, saving us money while also raising the wages of Americans now asked to fill those jobs.

If he can be disqualified from primaries in a few states and it stays, he could be disqualified in more states. And if he can be barred from primary ballots, then he can and will be barred from election ballots, too. Presumably GOP would not choose a candidate that they know is ineligible. Not that that is likely to happen, but until supreme court makes its decision it's something to relish/panic about.

We have been through this before in Europe during world wars when coffee was difficult to get and it was partially supplemented or completely replaced with ersatz ingredients made from domestic plants and mushrooms.
