if that's the case the device usually has very specific wrapping, including warnings and such. see section 10 of http://dtic.mil/whs/directives/corres/pdf/520001_vol3.pdf for an example.

yes, now you can no longer remove the battery from your phone to foil surveillance, but putting your phone in an unplugged microwave or refrigerator is an accepted thing to do to prevent surveillance

gibson's stuff is all good; the bigend trilogy is worth reading even if it was basically set in the present when written (and is now set super deep in the dark past when people had powerpc ibooks)

Going to piggyback on your post here to ask what should I watch/read on the plane to Defcon?

Basically looking for anything Vegas, wizardpunk, or possibly wizardpunk vegas.

Current Contenders:

The First Hangover (filmed at the Riv, which was blown up by terrorists the shareholders.)
Heavy Metal
Running Man
Lawnmower Man
The Day After
Hackers

(Bonus points if it's something I can load via Netflix or Prime rather than uh, legally obtain and rip to my device)

the vegas scenes in "3000 miles to graceland" were also filmed at the riv, which is greatly improved since def con was there

the first year they had "crash and compile" at def con we won because the team of MIT people got too trolled and went off to play cards
