It has already been demonstrated that this is one of the worst cartoons to read back to back. It just turns into words and primary colours, your brain liquefies and runs out your ears by the third one. A whole book of them seems like it should be classified as a deadly weapon

So what you should do is savour each and every one, spending few hours reading them slowly and enjoying each as if they were a really really expensive wine.

I actually really like This Modern World.

I think the idea is that the novel already explained what it itself means, so English professors can't do their job of analyzing literature.

Would a novel that expressly analyze its own symbols, conventions and metaphors in staggering detail then prohibit other analysis of that novel, thus making it "un-analyzable" to its consumers, rebirthing the Author? The Duck says Yes.

Monopoly is about how exploitative unregulated monopolies are, not some kind of rags-to-riches property investment simulator. That's apparently the original intention of the 'prototype' version of the game: that monopolies (or landlords) are greedy bastards.

This is an extremely good comic and I just love every single panel besides the first. The Walker vs. Chapo comparison, Atticus connected to a dry California joke, hidden costs removing Iran from history and mythology, all good stuff.

How the hell would you do that to a drill press? That doesn't make any sense.

In the book, Rall sneaks into the school's shoproom and replaces the drill bit on that press with one that is crooked. Brian uses the drill press without clamping the sheet metal that he is drilling causing the metal to spin out and slice open his abdomen and he gets eviscerated. This plan hinges on 1) No one else using the drill press before Brian 2) Brian using that particular press 3) Brian not securing the sheet metal 4) Brian not examining the state of the machine prior to using it and probably a billion other little things. However, it works absolutely according to plan, because this is a fictional story and not something that ever happened.

Here's how it is portrayed in the book:

So after Rall disemboweled Brian and told him that he hoped he died, the principal called Rall into his office to whine at him and call him a pussy in his mind. No real punishment, though. Rall decided that the best way to handle Koff was to be "passive aggressive". Rall then demonstrates that he doesn't know what being passive aggressive means, but not before getting punched in the stomach again and called a fag (f count 11). Anyway, this happens next.

Passive aggressiveness.

JaggerMcDagger posted:

My Mutilation of Brian: Chapter 5

So if you thought a 5-pound brick to the head dropped from two stories up would kill Brian, you haven't gotten the theme of the story yet.

Rall begins to fantasize

Rall eventually takes a paperboy job so he could throw papers through the Koff's windows, and then comes another one of the really good pages.

Proof that Rall does not know what the world moral means.

JaggerMcDagger posted:

Chapter 6
Final exam: D-Day

So over the summer, Rall hit puberty. In his own words, "I grew eight inches in three months, gained a dozen pounds, and picked up a girlfriend"
And so on the first day of high school, Rall was "surprised" when Brian punched him in the back of the head at his locker. Rall looks down at Brian, literally, because Rall is now bigger than him. Rall then fears that if he doesn't do some sort of retaliation, this will happen.

(that book would make a good avatar)
And so Rall responds appropriately.

That's not the final one in the book (he destroyed Brian's car and threw a brick through Brian's room window), but I figure this is enough Rall.

Perhaps Tinsley's adorable portrayal of Grim Reaper here is meant as a symbolism to Planned Parenthood's nice image (of safe family planning) hiding something terrible (loves death).

Actually, how is PP perceived in the general American public before this 'scandal' came out? I've only heard about the vehement anti-abortionists protesting outside abortion clinics, but PP isn't just abortion clinic, yeah?

I feel like the use of Bismillah there is...weird. Especially with the bolded emphasis. If he's awed or surprised at the concept of the Capitol Ruins having no foundation, surely Subhanallah would fit more. If he felt remorse, Innallillahi is a more appropriate term. If he felt glad (because All Muslims Despise USA's Freedoms) as the lack of foundation ease the Caliphate Expansion into the North Americas, Alhamdulillah would be spoken. If Achmed felt that his predecessors rightfully colonized the Great Satanistan, with help from the secret Muslim cabal of Jewish Communists conspirators (also featuring Atheists and Socialists) and thus felt pride as he now sat on a poor American, he would shout ALLAHU AKBAR and proceed to recite the 60th verse of Al-Anfal.

Bismillah is usually said when one started something, do Muslim Americans use it differently?

Apparently dude kinda fits into a few Russian stereotypes for being a wimpy little man. I two of these are his height and his voice (it's too high pitched for what Russians consider "manly"), but I think there's some more.

And the American Right is eating it up.

If the Russians also did the "worshiping a foreign not-so-manly politician for his overly-masculine propaganda" thing, I wonder which of the American politicians they're going to worship?
