Have I missed what he has done or said to be revered as a cool, woke dude?

People liked Wrestling isn't Wrestling & the Death & Return of Superman.

Liking something makes it really easy for people to justify or downplay lovely people and actions.

I just figured he was just a dickhead that overreacted to things, not that he was a creep whose treatment of women was being covered up by his dad.

I've been getting into OSW lately, they put up a review of TNA Bound For Glory 17 about a week ago. They also uploaded a video for the TNA 2007 Christmas episode with the infamous Silent Night, Bloody Night match starring Abyss, Shark Boy, Black Reign (Goldust on a shitload of drugs and was really fat at the time) and Rellik (that's killer spelt backwards) which is among the most insulting matches that I've ever seen that wasn't a lovely comedy match.

There's also the old staple of Brian & Vinny.

Also this. Comparatively, Light comes across as very sympathetic in the Netflix version, which imo misses the point. He's bullied, and he's egged on by Misa, and just so very reluctant to go too far using his powers, and L corners him so he has no choice but to lash out... Bleh.

It does make him chronically uncool and about as far away from being a badass as you can get, and I can appreciate that, but turning him into some kind of woobie is worse in pretty much every way.

It's actually why I much prefer the Japanese live action versions of Death Note to the manga & anime. Besides the fact that it made Naomi Misora a key character in the first film, Light is somehow even more sociopathic and just sacrifices his girlfriends life just so he'd look sympathetic and believable when he went to the TaskForce asking to help take Kira down. It also cuts out the second half, which loving plods holy poo poo, and L ends up outsmarting Light by writing his own name in the Death Note so Light couldn't kill him with it.

It cuts down on the melodrama and fixes the pacing so much.

The only reason why you would even consider filming in Aokigahara is if you're doing it it have an extremely candid talk about mental health and suicide and are using it as a somber talking point.
That's literally the only reason I can think of a person wanting to film there.

They've always been weirdly like this; they were incredibly conservative under Premier Thomas Playford and banned shitloads of books that were even slightly controversial from being sold in regular bookshops and they were the state pushing hardest against the introduction of an R rating for video games.

I found it surprisingly hard to be an rear end in a top hat in The Walking Dead games just because having to explain why I shot someone in the face or stole something and having Clementine just be so dang disappointed in my choices worked better than anything Bioware or Bethesda had managed to do.

I feel that was why Walking Dead season 1 was so effective; you're the everyman and you have a small child as your morality compass. Clem is executed so well as a character that you don't want to disappoint her or at least want to justify your actions to her.
Meanwhile most Bioware games just have a 'this person likes you more/less' thing which guides your actions which just does not function well at all. It's why I laugh when some people say that KOTOR2 is poo poo, can you imagine Bioware trying to write a character with the nuance of Kreia?

I recently got into a conversation with some IRL friends about Ready Player One, after I saw that another friend was looking forward to the RPO movie on his blog. I groused about some of the hilarious scenes I'd read excerpts of, and someone who read the book brought up that it's intentional that the narrator has this embarrassing inability to process the world without referencing pop culture that's an indictment of the world he lives in. I haven't read RPO myself, so I dunno if that's true or not. Given everything else I heard, I'm assuming that Cline is aware to some degree that there are problems with nerd pathology, but he's either unaware of just how much of a problem he's dealing with or he's too enamored of nerdy indulgence to commit to condemning it. Then there's Armada's existence, which has the exact same oversaturation of references RPO is without the themes of escapism and corporations and whatever else to provide a fig leaf of justification.

If anyone here has read the whole book, I'd like to know if there's some half-assed criticisms tossed in there, Sucker Punch style, or if it really is nothing but "isn't this nerd poo poo AWESOME!?"

It's 100% the latter. It's written with no self-awareness on display

Sterling address some really good points (I like that he pointed out how bad the voice acting is), he also says that he's upset about the unique weapons being gone, and I don't think would really be a deal breaker for some. I'm not trying to say he's wrong; I do understand why it's frustrating. (I don't think it was done for 'realism', though. I think it the theory was that they were removed because of the engine change). My mindset was more that if they're taking the weapons out, then I hope that there are still move-sets in the game that are still fun to use.

Except there's no real variation. Everyone has the basic slashes and strong attack but then the 4 moves are just the same type of moves. Every Dynasty Warriors game (except 6 the last bad one) has the basic stun, launcher, knockback, etc moves but movesets still feel unique as some characters make it easier to combo between the various moves.
Plus for some reason three of the four female Wei characters have whip based weapons and the other one is just using Sun Shang Xiang's chakrams. Whips are boring; Emeici, flutes, harps and claws that send wires everywhere actually make characters stand out.

I'm not linking it but it's basically the most depressing thing that they've ever seen and she has just been on an awful downward spiral for about 17 years now. The saddest thing was that when she was inducted into the WWE hall of fame in 2011 and at the RAW 15th anniversary she looked really happy and healthy but she's basically aged 15 years since the HOF induction.

They did announce their next story arc though which should be a fun ride; it's the endless car crash that was the Lex Express in the WWF.
