gradenko_2000 posted:I don't think it's outrageous to suggest that it was irresponsible of the media to uncritically report about "EMAILS!!!" regardless of the actual merits of the claims, the case, and the facts of the investigation. or Trump's billions of dollars worth of free air time was a factor I don't think you can ignore how the media affected the result, but since the dems couldn't have done much about it they should look to things they could have done better

it's not quite as simple as people switching to Trump in Michigan Clinton was 300k down on Obama in 2012., but Trump was only 170k up on Romney. In Wisconsin Clinton was 230k down on Obama, and Trump got within 1000 votes of what Romney got. In Ohio Clinton was 380k down, Trump was 180k up. Similar in Iowa (Clinton down 160k, Trump up 80k) if people switched from D in 2012 to R in 2016 then a lot of former R voters didn't bother at all (which is a real possibility)

Slamhound posted:Serious question: Is there any election post-mortem wherein the people who voted for Trump are in any way, at least marginally responsible for Trump winning? They are responsible, but it's incredibly depressing (and probably wrong) to think that it was an inevitable result and that nothing could have been done better by the Dems.
