Yeah the nuclear stuff really winds me up. I think they've improved (I'd vote for them if I could, <3 harvie), but there's a reason David Icke did so well back in the day- however given that austerity became the accepted standard economic template it seems unfair to single them out as a party that lacks intellectual rigour.

Remember: A vote for ScotLab is a vote for Dugdale, not for Corbyn.
How are you so sure? - it's entirely dependent on how you choose to interpret it surely. What I can say for sure is that post election people like flaps are going to argue against corbyn for failing to win back Scotland. As background, my local SNP candidate (Alison Thewliss) is actually a good one, and the Tories are unlikely to win here. My question to you is - what massive transformation in narrative or campaigning has scotlab carried out recently to convince others in the post mortem that dugdale can take credit for my vote, rather than corbyn? Just to be clear, if I was in a swing seat id be all for the SNP. (Sorry about my lovely syntax but I'm phone posting)

This is dumb. A vote for ScotLab is a vote for the local candidate, the national leader & the overall leader, as well as for the party in general. And if you think the SNP can't lose the seat to the Tories, voting Labour is OK. Not as easy a choice as it would be if ScotLab were lead by someone less useless, but hey ho.

Yeah this is what I'm thinking basically

Please forgive my ignorance but could the pattern of violence in NI be broadly summarised as "Nats target soldiers" followed by " Loyalists target civilians"?

Percentage wise the UDA and British forces killed more civilians than the IRA. Not to say the IRA didn't kill more civilians as a whole but they targeted military and paramilitary forces. The UDA targeted civilian Catholics.

I really appreciated the effortposts by everyone upthread by the way. This is what I was getting at earlier. The numbers are completely unambiguous on this. Interestingly, wiki states that the republicans killed more republican paramilitaries than the loyalists did. The inference is that elements of one side at least partially saw themselves as fighting a war against a foreign power, as evidenced by their primary choice of target- what about the other?

I know and I'm tempted to leave it at that as I'm running on fumes. But the loyalists didn't target in the same way.

"I presume there is even now a locust-like horde of journos descending on norn iron ready to go rooting through dustbins and under mattresses looking for juicy scoops on the new kingmakers."

This is why this is significant. This conversation is going to be had.

But there aren't any histrionic calls for purges? Everything I've read here has been along the lines of "some of them put power before principle but now that it's been shown the two aren't directly opposed in the context of the British public's appetite for leftist policy, let's talk them round". Deselection is a thoroughly democratic way of addressing the remainder.

I can't stand all the pro Ruth chat, even relative to the rest of the party- Davidson is objectively not a good person and just because she has some socially modern views (that happen to dovetail neatly with her own circs) doesn't make her any less objectionable, or less likely to for example argue that she wants to help disabled people by ending the patronising state assistance they get as this will encourage them to go and get a job. I also have it on good authority that her flat "absolutely reeks of pish" so make of that what you will lol. A sugarcoated, media competent, Twitter savvy turd is a turd nonetheless.
