Theres functionally no difference between a dem saying it and the Republicans making it up. The dem base wont listen and the Republican base isnt even in this reality.

Plus since hes not going to win the primary it could be spun as "yeah we aren't doing that, that's one of the reasons beto lost" though I'd agree it would be different if beto had a chance of taking the nomination.

Biden won't close those loving camps

Biden would constantly be worried about what Republicans say about him he wouldn't act. Every time he would try to do something, the Republicans would call him "weak on x". In this case, trying to close the camps would get him called "weak on immigration" and hed cave like a cheap coal mine and leave them open.

He also wouldnt complain when mcconnel held up his judges. He also wouldnt speak up when they hold open another supreme court seat. Hell, I doubt anyone but Bernie and maybe warren would speak up about that.

Trump's damage will be slow, unlike Bush's 'start a war' damage.

Trump's judges will gently caress us over for 40 years. They will allow some heinous poo poo. They may start allowing for some really bad poo poo.

Holy poo poo, this was in a sidebar on the frontpage of CNN. Bernie's going to win. "Bernie Sanders could actually win this thing" https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/07/politics/bernie-sanders-joe-biden-2020-democratic-primary/index.html

I wonder how much this will snowball. I'm sure there are lots of people who think "I like bernie, but he probably won't win, so I'll support [other candidate].". Once articles like this come out, it's bound to change some minds.

I stand by my theory that the major news outlets have finally achieved just enough self-awareness to know that the media "bounce" candidates get from positive articles are really the kiss of death in the long term, and are trying to use that fact to throttle Sanders' campaign. They're hoping that the initial bounce from their coverage is followed by a permanent drop in support after that cycle ends, just like has happened with every other candidate they've tried to push.

I think it's more likely to backfire; the reason they dropped in the polls is because once the candidate was examined, people realized how poo poo they were (at least that's my uneducated guess/hope). Since bernie has more upsides when they go on about "the crazy guy who wants everyone to have healthcare" more people might support him.

Is it them thinking they have the best shot against Bernie, like the reverse pied piper effect clinton did in 2016 to get trump the nomination?

It is great that, simultaneously, the argument is being made that Bernie can't be the candidate because as a leftist he'd get crushed in the general elections, and that Bernie can't be the candidate because people who aren't democrats support him.
It's always this "heads I win tails you lose" with him.

An added third option is that up until now, convincing moderate conservative/Republicans was a reason we needed to nominate a moderate. Now that bernie is pulling them in, like you said, it's now a bad thing.

This is what I'm afraid of. A bunch of no chance candidates go into the convention without a clear winner so the first vote is inconclusive. Second round let's superdelegates vote so bernie gets hosed even if he had a plurality of votes.

Suddenly now that bernie can do it, they've changed their tune.

Maybe Biden would close the border camps but he'd do jack poo poo to combat climate change, he wouldn't aggressively stack the courts, he has already committed to do nothing to address health care, and he's certainly going to do nothing to address vast income inequality.

Bidem will not close the camps. He might make moves to do it, but will cave like a cheap coal mine once the Republicans call him "weak on immigration". He will let the Republicans block all his court nominees and will destroy his own parts base to court Republicans with policy.

Basically a more timid obama administration. Followed by a competent facist in 2024.

I'd never vote for him in a jillion years, but there is a non-zero chance he endorses bernie when he drops out.
