:siren: It Is Still Continuing to Happen :siren:

What We Know
• The 57th parliament is dissolved in preparation for the general election on December 12th, 2019.
• Voter registration in under 35s seems to be up on last time.
• Former saboteurs running for re-election.
• As is Independent Mike Gapes (who had an interesting hustings).
• Cum Tzu has slithered out of the back door.
• BXP confirmed running as wreckers only, but nobody seems to care lol.
• Conservative Party suspected of suppressing a parliamentary report into Russian interference because it contains "embarrassing" disclosures.
• Lib Dems now accusing squirrels 1337 hackers for their bad faith bar chart poo poo.
• Johnson hides from climate debate and sends his dad with a note instead.
• Tory plot to sell the NHS still on.

Azza Bamboo did a big effortpost about stuff we previously knew to get up to speed, but to summarize, Parliament has been in deadlock since the Brexit referendum, Theresa May held a snap election to Crush The Saboteurs, lost seats, lost every meaningful vote, and stepped down for the spirit of a Victorian school bully trapped in the three day corpse of a BMW salesman who died showing his mates why circuit breakers were nonsense, who promptly further reduced his majority by 20 and now seeks a majority to Get Brexit (Transition) Done and continue the worst of austerity but call it something else. Against him stands a veteran anti-racism campaigner who is apparently the number one threat to British Jews according to a bunch of people who were curiously quiet when the alt-right and soi-disant antisemites were in the press ever day, and Scotland.
Some other people are also running.

Sanford posted:

The most successful messaging I've found so far is "if not for Tory austerity, about 200,000 people would be alive who are now dead. That's 1000's of empty spots on the sofa, 1000's of people starting to make two cups of tea before realising their mistake, 1000's of people rolling over in bed and reaching out for someone who isn't there, 1000's of families missing someone this Christmas who should still be with them. And this is when the tories were on form, never mind the chaos of recent months." The most negative response I've had so far is "I need to think about this" from someone who told me in 2017 he couldn't see himself ever voting not tory, never mind voting labour. It's a powerful message.

Ok here's my synthesis of mine and Tigey's posts. (also lol at that kelly edit i made ages ago coming back to haunt me and still being relevant after all these years. though i guess the party being referred to in the leftmost cloud has changed somewhat.) Those in the know let me know all if there's anything needs added/taken away, i'm not a mental health professional so most of this advice is second hand:

Hi everyone! In these wild times please remember to take good care of your own mental health. This election period is going to be an absolute emotional rollercoaster, regardless of the result. There is so much at stake, both generally in the country and personally for many of us, and there are bound to be further massive highs and depressing lows as the election carries on. There will be no shortage of things happening and people saying things and stuff you could be thinking about or potentially doing to help. There will be no shortage of tedious arguments where people speak past each other or wild brawls where people accuse each other of being responsible for society's ills.

In all of this it can often feel like you're obliged to pay attention to all of the stuff going on. It can often feel like you have to exhaust yourself in order to dedicate every last drop of energy you have towards the election. There may well be times when you find yourself unable to think about anything else, constantly refreshing livefeeds or searching out new horrible things that you know will make you angry or sad and that there is nothing you can do about. This isn't healthy - don't do it.

Please make sure you are taking enough time away from politics over the next few weeks to avoid damage to your own emotional wellbeing/mental health. It's good for you, and even if you don't care about yourself it's good for those around you as well. Whatever happens we're all going to need people who care about stuff, and we're going to need a good chunk of those people to be able to get up in the morning.

If you're feeling overwhelmed or need someone to talk to, there are details of helplines you can call here, here and here.

The right to punish the tyrant and the right to dethrone him are the same forms. The tyrant's trial is the insurrection; the verdict, the collapse of his power; the sentence, whatever the liberty of the people requires.

Peoples do not judge in the same way as courts of law; they do not hand down sentences, they throw thunderbolts, they drop them back into the void; and this justice is worth just as much as that of the courts.

Or if the Farmer-Labor Party took over from the Dems as the party of the left, secured solid social gains in the mid 20th century, before a melt wing of liberals split off to form the Social Liberal Party and then joined up with the Dems to form the Democratic Liberals, then the FLP became a bunch of authoritarian Clintonite/Bushite war on terror weirdoes in the early 21st century, forcing the libertarian side of the Republicans to the forefront in opposition, who then immediately hosed over the poorest in conjunction with the Dem Libs, causing the FLP to take a long look at itself and throw their support behind someone to the left of Sanders.

It's possible. It's not as overtly SWERFy as "prostituted women", but it does seem to go against a lot of the "hey maybe don't call us that" from incall sex workers. Then again the ECP does use the term, but that's always been the case that advocacy groups have more latitude to describe themselves than outsiders, as with the NAACP and UNCF.

I don't think Corbyn was uniquely capable of taking advantage of those factors. He might have done better since winning in 2015 than the other possibilities, though. Who else was even in that group? Skinner?
Skinner has a long-standing personal policy never to take cabinet or shadow roles, he's MP for Bolsover and the people of Bolsover. It may have just been Corbyn/Abbott/McDonnell. I'm sure there was a fourth though. McDonnell may have won but not as much as Corbyn. I don't want to speculate what the press would have been like with Abbott.

hmm what are Jewish people afraid will happen if Corbyn gets into power? pogroms? deportation? death camps?

it will prove everyone is antisemitic because they've decided he's antisemitic so voting for him is antisemitic because he's antisemitic?

I'm genuinely puzzled as to what the conclusion of this article is meant to be
They've seemingly somehow managed to pin the increase in antisemitism leading up to 2015 (alt-right, pepes, chan culture, white nationalism, conservative bronies) on Corbyn.

I've seen more than one melt claiming Corbyn's antisemitism drove David Milliband out of the party.

That's an amazing reimagining of history. 10 years time it'll be Corbyn who put up a statue of his ex-wife Nancy Astor, who invented antisemitism in the Physics department at Cambridge.

I thought he left in a fit of pique because Ed got the votes he expected.
Ed's a good lad and it would be great if he was in the Cabinet when Labour win.
Ed's antisemitism drove poor David from the party. "I hate Judaism!" he screamed as he rubbed a bacon sandwich across his naked body and filled his second kitchen with breadcrumbs. David gathered all the bananas he could find and fled to New York.

Basically devolved administration's get money representing the increase in public spending in England on area under the devolved competencies of the regional governments but are not bound to spend it according to how it is spent in England - so for example here in NI things like Labours transport and education policies won't apply as these matters are devolved so the executive receives money proportional to how much is being spent in England but can spend it as they see fit.

If the job interview studies are anything to go by, in certain parts I can imagine it's a large disadvantage to have an Irish surname.

SENSIBLE, the boring cousin of COMMON SENSE

Other countries have 'common sense' but its used more as knowledge of society passed down, whilst in this country its used more as an occam's razor to ignore a complex subject and go for the dumbest solution.
Fairly sure that's common across most of the Anglosphere at least, wherever analysis needs substituting with reactionary nonsense.
